Packers game to be on Time Warner Cable — on Telemundo in Spanish

Friday's Green Bay Packers game will be available on Time Warner Cable via Milwaukee's Telemundo station (Channel 27/SD Channel 1027-HD) (Spanish), the cable company says.

The Green Bay Packers preseason opening Friday night will run on Time Warner Cable in Milwaukee— on Milwaukee's Telemundo station, the cable company said.

The game will run over the air, via satellite television and on Charter cable on Packers preseason flagship station WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), but not on Time Warner Cable.

The announcement Thursday afternoon by the cable company represents Time Warner Cable's strategy to promote the fact that the game will be available to subscribers despite the fact that Time Warner Cable is not carrying Channel 4 during a contract dispute with station owner Journal Broadcast Group of Milwaukee.

The Telemundo announcers on the Packers game speak Spanish. Time Warner Cable suggested that non-Spanish speakers can tune into the game on radio for the audio play-by-play.

Coincidentally, the Packers radio network also is owned by Journal Broadcast Group, as is flagship station WTMJ-AM (620).

Journal Broadcast Group, which partners with the Green Bay Packers in a multiyear agreement to lead the Packers Television Network, will allow the Telemundo telecast to happen, said Journal Broadcast executive vice president Steve Wexler. The Milwaukee company agreed to provide a feed to the local Telemundo station starting in 2012 and the Telemundo station adds graphics and announcing in Spanish.

"This is not new at all," Wexler told me via email. "It's a commitment we made to the Packers and Telemundo. Technically we could back out and not provide the feed, but we won't do that, even though that's exactly what Time Warner has done to our (Channel 4) viewers."

The Packers first preseason game will be Friday night against the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The game is unlikely to run on Channel 4 due to the ongoing contract dispute between Journal Broadcast Group and Time Warner Cable.

Time Warner Cable said that in southeast Wisconsin and the Milwaukee area, the game will be available on Telemundo on standard cable in analog format on WYTU Channel 27. The game also be available on basic cable in digital format only on WYTU HD Channel 1027 and Nuestra Tele (in digital) on WYTU SD Channel 805, Time Warner Cable said.

Got to love the loopholes, Jack 1000, muchas gracias!:rof:

Hung on the antenna and tried to watch it on TMJ4.  The constant flashing of that FleetFarm board and that goofey 'Packers TV Network' shield actually made it unwatchable.  I gave up in the second quarter.

More and more commercials during the commercial breaks, and that annoying garbage during the game itself and then they want to charge the transportation service more too?  Un-fricken-believable.

I tried watching it on Telemundo, muting the tv and listening to WTMJ-AM 620. There was a ten sceond delay between the HD feed and the radio broadcast, it was unwatchable.

I DVR'd it from the NFL Network and watched it that way.
