TWC Samsung HD DVR playback issue

I only recently traded my old SA HD-DVR back to TWC to get the Samsung version with the larger hdd.

Besides the navigator being slower, the most annoying thing about the new box is that sometimes during playback it starts to go into slow motion.  Sometimes it will fix itself, sometimes I have to stop playback/exit/restart the show.  Sometimes that won't even fix it.

Anyone have this issue besides me?

What is the model number of the box?  If it's a DVR, it is most likely the Samsung 3270.  Are you using HDMI or Component Cables?  When you say, fix itself, does it fix itself randomly?  Did the issue just after you get the box?  Can you reproduce the error?  How often does it occur?

Unfortunately, this sounds like a box issue, you can swap out the box for another Samsung, or try the Cisco 8640, which is the equivalent of the Samsung.  The non-C SA-8300's, which are fast, are being phased out, they are no longer being made by the manufacturer.  This slow down happens without any remote control interaction I would assume?

I would recommend a cold reboot.  Turn off the box and TV, Unplug the box for at least 30 seconds and let it reboot.  If it happens again, you may want to swap out the box.

You can also report this as a software bug at the TWC Direct to Tech Forum, by indicating the specific issues with the box as I described above, in addition to the make and model number of the Samsung.  Give them specific information.  They will likely recommend a box swap, but you can ask if this is a known widespread issue with the Samsung.  If they say yes, you may want to go with the Cisco 8640.  The direct to Tech Forum is a secure website where information is exchanged between you and the tech people.  Registration is required before posting, if you do not already have a dslreports.com account.  If you already have a dslreports account, you may sign in using that screen name.  Here is the TWC Direct to Tech Forum, which goes to corporate:

Thanks for the reply and the advice.

Yes, that is the correct model number.

I am using the HDMI connection.

I cannot reproduce the issue on command. It just randomly happens during playback. A full reboot will fix the issue for a while but it will eventually come back.

As for frequency, it seems to happen at least once or twice per night.

Last night I did find what I think is a short term fix.  If it starts happening, I just start rewinding the show and then hit play again and the issue seems cured.  I only got to try it once, so I am not sure if it is an all-time fix.

I do have a DSLReports login.  I will try to post the problem over there.

Thanks again,

Glad to help Paul, let us know how it goes.  There are software updates being pushed out for the boxes around the country.  I don't know when we will get them, but they often fix bugs such as these.
