62% OF AMERICANS IN MARKETS WHERE BROADCASTERS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Broadcasters announced today that with the addition of 21 new digital television stations, 62% of all U.S. television households are in markets where local broadcasters are delivering five or more digital television signals.

     Five of the new stations (marked with a *) are the first in their markets on air with DTV, bringing the total number of markets where DTV is now available to 163. In the past month, 87 stations have made the switch to digital television. In the past 12 months, 380 stations have made the transition to DTV.

     With the new DTV stations, there are now 595 stations broadcasting in digital and 93.76% of Americans now live in markets where there is at least one DTV station.


     The National Association of Broadcasters is a full-service trade association that promotes and protects free, over-the-air local radio and television stations' interests in Washington and around the world.
