Cablecard: $2.50
Tuning Adapter: Free

You then have to purchase at minimum the Digital Access package, which if memory serves, adds approx. $7.50 to your standard analog cable package. (I don't have the exact cost for that... TWC seems to refuse to post the standard package pricing on their website, which SHOULD be illegal if you ask me.)

Your best bet is the Digital Variety package, which should be right around $9 in addition to your standard analog cable package. This will get you most of the HD channels, except MAV HD, Smithsonian HD, Universal HD, MGM HD, premium/movie channels, and a couple of sports channels like Tennis HD and NHL HD (for example).

You will definitely lose all "two-way" services, such as PPV, On Demand, Caller ID On Screen and Start Over. However, TiVo does have integration with Netflix, Amazon On Demand, and Blockbuster On Demand, so you can use those services instead if you so choose.

Too add a little to this, do not call regular customer service.  As I posted last week the guy fought with me and really tried to have me get the box vs a cable card and tried to tell me the HD channels won't work and how he can't give me a discount, bla bla bla.  Loadstar was right that that guy was so full of crap his eyes were brown.  The tech showed up Saturday with a box, so I had to reschedule, I was furious, not at the tech, but at that original Customer service rep.  .

Call this number, 866-892-0019, they are TWC Account Specialists and much more knowledgeable.  For the same reason if you need your tuning adapter reset, call Customer service and ask for Tier 3.

The account specialists may ask you if you want two S-cards or one M-Card, go for just one, the guy said it was a Truway, and I read somewhere how the tuning adapter interacts better with an M-Card than two S-Cards.

Glad to have Cable back!!!!  I love Monday Night Football!!!

Hi Tivoman,

Great info there!

What is the official department at TWC for that number?  Is that Customer Retention?  Can you call about any cable information on that number or just account information? What do you bypass when calling that number?  Thanks!

Hi Jack,
I think that that is customer retention, also known as account reps.  I believe it is a step up than regular customer service.  The people just seem much more informed and more professional.

Looking at getting a TiVo Premiere.  Can you just go with the Standard Cable (channels 1-99) and use it with the TiVo?  I just want to record all my locals in HD, but don't care as much about the wife's and kid's channels in HD.  I don't want to pay for a Cable Card or deal with tuning adapters.  Just need to be able to get Discovery, Disney, TBS, TNT, etc in SD.  Will this work with TiVo Premiere?  It appears as if it would according to TiVo website.

Yes, this should work just fine.

Wow, talk about night and day. I just got a TiVo XL on Thursday for my bedroom (ordered last Wednesday) and with Charter they pretty much didn't put up a fight at all with me beyond my having to suck up a $50 install fee. I pretty much told them the only reason I was switching one of my Moxi DVR's to Tivo is because they don't offer the newer Moxi boxes and I loathe the Motorola/TV Guide DVR interface (keeping a Moxi in the living room since my mom is a heavy VOD user and because I have to keep one Charter DVR under my contract). Installer came out with a M-Card and tuning adapter (that surprised me because I didn't know our system switched to SDV, but now I have an explanation why I don't get GSN and Versus HD sometimes since they're SDV'ed), installed in 45 minutes and I was ready to go.

Of course it helps that Charter's Wisconsin systems are a little behind the times compared to TWC's modernization efforts, so they don't mind losing a few box fees to TiVo.

If only Charter and TWC were everywhere in the state, then we could have additional choices besides just TWC, satelite or OTA.

Btw, I did just buy another Tivo from a friend (HD) so adding that in addition to my S3.  Does anyone know how much the lifetime service costs for the unit?  I looked everywhere on the tivo website and even did a google search and could only find their monthly thing.
