Just a little poll to stir up some discussion. Do you like the current in-house graphics, the FOX O&O graphics, or would you like to see something entirely new?

Personally I prefer the O&O graphics, but the current ones aren't terrible.

For those of us outside the know, what is O&O?

Owned and operated. The graphics are designed to look like the Fox News Channel.

WITI's last graphics package was the first generation FOX O&O package (Only a handful of stations have it in HD, it was primarily designed for SD).

And they do use the HD O&O package in one portion of their new graphics, it's in the graphic for "The Buzz".

Personally I would have liked to see the previous package in HD (like WGHP) or the HD O&O graphics (like WFLD in Chicago).

I'm not sure "The Buzz" graphic counts as O&O.

And speaking of the first generation O&O, WJW in Cleveland is one of the stations that still uses those graphics in HD.

I think that it looks pretty good. And on a side note, WJW is owned by the same company as WITI (Local TV).

Hmm. Not sure how to answer the poll. I'm not the biggest fan of the FOX O&O package, but I'd love to see them use the O&O -- but only if they had the money to do the full boat, including the graphics, sound, and set. Just the graphics alone look odd when they don't really mesh with the rest, and I definitely think they don't mesh with the current set.

(Of course, I've been a fairly vocal advocate of a complete overhaul of Studio A in any case, rather than the coat of paint, new desk, and new duratrans they did during the last "remodel.")

The current graphics aren't bad... they're just not anything special, if you ask me. They do the job without being particularly flashy.

This has nothing to do with WITI's graphics, but talking about O & O packages, at my station, we had our graphics generator die and even though we are not HD news but we are 16:9 SD, we did get the same box WITI has and we recreated the O & O graphics we had been using to the new format since the two graphics box are not compatible. Here is the results off of a simple 2 anchor shot super. And yes, we created our own rotating bug that replaced the other style used. We use only one graphics box now compared to the 4 it took to create the same look before. Having the main graphics box die was a blessing in disguise for us.
