Uneventful, overall. Very early in the morning on Tuesday, I went through Guided Setup on my TiVo, and it was already able to pick up the new lineup.

I also recreated my season passes because they all still showed the old channels even after the guided setup. I may have jumped the gun there because other users over on the TiVo Community stated that theirs updated themselves eventually, later in the day.

I've gone and deselected virtually all the analog channels as "channels I receive" on my TiVo, since 95% of them are duplicated in the digital tiers. I think the only ones I left are WMLW, WPXE, WBME and WGN America, which aren't duplicated at this point.

Quote from: spolebitski;53707When will the TiVo get the update of the channel change?  Is it a TiVo issue or a TWC issue?

Redo guided setup. It'll update the lineup. (Also fully reboot the tuning adapter, if you have one.)

Than I am not the only one!  I get something called Digital Value Package with All in One, so whatever that entails.  Along with the brochure of the new channel line-up, I got a little one page thing that had those "Digital Choice Channels" coming soon and on the other side, there was ( I think) a list of about 10 HD channels, that according to the catalog are supposed to be coming out the end of the year or before.  AFAIK, there are three optional packs that are out there now:

The Movie Lover's Package: All the Encore Channels and Fox Movies

The Sports Package: About 6-8 channels, and the only reason I have that now is because a family member loves the Tennis Channel.  Otherwise, I would probably drop that.

The Spanish Package:

BTW I did find out that TWC-Ohio did the channel theme line up like we have and they list a Digital Choice package for $4.95/mo ala-Carte.  But it looks like this is going to be included with the Digital Value Package.  My bill did go up about $4.80 this month, something like that.  I think they had a raise on some of the tax fees or something.  But it is most likely for the inclusion of those channels.

But don't quote me on the rates!  Or even on that package.  For our Milwaukee area, all they say is "coming soon." My understanding is if you are locked into Digital Standard, or subscribe to Digital Value  you get those channels when they come out. If you subscribe to a lower level of Digital cable, it could be $4.95/mo. Ala Carte.

I really like the new line-up although it takes some getting used to!  How has it been for the rest of you?

Jack

I just called them as the Mrs is interested in RFDTV since it has some horse shows on it and she has a horse, but was told that with the Digital Variety Package that we have as part of the triple bundle, it doesn't carry it and we'd need to add the Digital Choice Package to it for an additional $5/mo so I'd be interested in where you saw/heard about us getting it for free.

Thanks

We have something called Digital Value that shows up on our bill for $5.00 a month.  I just checked TWC's website for the "Digital Choice" Package, and these are the channels that are included:

This is the Digital Choice Package (From TWC's website)

110 Nick 2
138 Military History
210 Ovation
222 Crime & Investigation Network
229 RFD TV
328 FUEL
331 Sportsman Channel
356 Bloomberg TV
357 CNN International

************************************

I tried some of the channels that we have been getting for years in that are now in this package and they all work EXCEPT for those 5 new channels above.

I am not disputing what you were told, and you may in fact be right about this.  But all that I know is that:

1.) Last month's bill said I get the "Digital Value Package." We also get the optional Digital Sports Package

2.) A discounted rate of about $5.00 was missing, so I assumed that this was to cover the cost of  the new channels.

3.) What we need to know is?  What is the difference between the  Digital Value Package, which I appear to have and the Digital Variety Package, which you appear to have?

Big Dog, see if you can still view stuff like 328-FUEL and  331-Sportsmen's channel and 357-CNN International?  I get all those channels.  If you cannot view them, you may have a different package than me.  If you can, it shows above that they are part of the Digital Choice Package and in that case we should be getting them.

I than dug further on TWC's new channel info and it said for NE Wisconsin that customers who subscribe to the package that I thought I had.  Can't remember if it said Value or Variety, DAMN (and it's gone now!) would receive all the channels in the Digital Choice Package.  Than I went to the SE Wisconsin site and it said something like:

"We are adding_________to the new Digital Choice Package COMING SOON TO YOUR AREA."  But this verbiage is now gone from the site.  Than when it said "coming soon" indicated by a star next to the channels in the guide they sent out, there was never ANY indication that these channels were optional.  (Which I think is B.S)

This is why I assumed that Northern Wisconsin had those new channels because the coming soon announcement was not a part of the NE Wisconsin area.  So we may be waiting for six channels that may not come at all unless we get another $5.00 package?  If this is true, I certainly don't think it is worth it!

Has ANYONE from Milwaukee or vicinity without calling TWC just turned on their boxes and gotten these channels to come in?

Just noticed they put Oxygen on 45 and moved HLN to 11.  So much for grouping.    44-48 used to be a news block, so why would they move HLN out and Oxygen in?

ARRGGH!  My Series3 Tivo has not gotten any information on the new lineup and is missing recordings as I type this.  Two questions:

1) Will Guided Setup fix the channel lineup?

2) Will Guided Setup delete the programs I have recorded?

I'm kind of in a minor panic now because I started Guided Setup and then realized that it might delete all my recorded programs -- And there doesn't seem to be a way to cancel the Guided Setup (I even did a cold start and it comes back to the "Press SELECT to begin Guided Setup").

I'd appreciate a reply, though it doesn't look like I have a choice at this point.  Thanks!

These answers will tell us a lot!

In restudying this,

It look like, barring a restructuring of current service packages,  these channels are ONLY offered through the Digital Choice Package, which appears that you must call to have added to your services at $4.95/mo.  BigDog, I think you're right!

The grouped channels affect ONLY Digital tiered services at or above channel 100.  TWC in the past has wanted to group Standard Cable service better, (2-99) but cannot do so because local municipalities and cities PAY to have their stations on select local markets over others.  And to standardize standard cable service by grouping, cable operators would have to value one channel, say for example WISN-12 over whatever the call-letters for ABC in Green Bay would be.

Digital Cable allows for better grouping because it is nationally marketed, not dependent on local broadcasters like Standard Service often is.

Oh everyone, remember that almost ALL of the standard service 2-99 channels now have duplicate stations in the Digital Tiers making them easier to find.

For example Headline News for Digital subs is also in the Theme Category, "News and Weather" on Channel 351.  Oxygen is in the "Entertainment" Theme Category on channel 215.

OK, panic mode canceled.  I bit the bullet and repeated Guided Setup and Tivo now knows about the new channel lineup (one of the most annoying things a cable company can do, IMHO -- So much for memorizing where the channels were)

But the Season Pass Manager still has the programs using the OLD channel numbers.  Will it deal with that, or do I have to re-enter everything with the new channel numbers?

Yes, I realize the official regrouping only applies to the digital channels.  But if TWC considers grouping a good idea in general, why did they 'ungroup' - move a news channel out of a group of news channels - in the analog range?

Yes, it will update. It may take up to 24 hours for the channel numbers to update themselves in the Season Pass and To Do list, but I believe it will still record on the correct channels regardless.

I have just checked I don't get those "Digital Choice" channels (I just checked now because I usually just watch mostly HD channels, now in the 1000's).

- I have, according to my last billing statement, "Digital Standard plus premiums", so TWC, what's going on?:huh?:

They didn't say anything about preserving grouping on analog.

Oxygen was on 73, and based on past trends with that section of spectrum, they are clearing out those analog channels from high to low.  They may be paying more for Oxygen than HLN, so HLN was a better choice to put in the Basic spectrum.

Putting CSPAN and CSPAN2 on 98-99 seems to have resulted in a domino effect, because 8 opened up.

Moving UNI from 11 to 8 seems inconsequential.  I don't know why they wouldn't just move HLN to 8.  I would speculate that interference on one or the other led to that decision.

As I've said before, I suspect analog is going to be sloughing off gradually.  Over the next few months/quarters/years we'll see 72, 71, 70 and so on de-allocated.  They want you to go digital, in other words.    They're not dropping you like a hot potato, they just want to nudge you along.

We just have basic, so my wife wasn't too happy about Oxygen's demise.  But not $50 a month unhappy.  Lucky for me, I can still watch SABADO GIGANTE!  AYYYYYYY!  :)
