New HD Channels Planned For TWC-Milwaukee (Updates Here)

We have not had any recent HD channel additions for TWC-Milwaukee for a long time.  Not sure, but I think MLB Network HD was the last addition.  With the availability of SDV on TWC's Milwaukee system, there have been other TWC channels that will be added soon in other state's divisions, but no changes for TWC-Milwaukee.

All we get on their local website is one or two changes to their VOD line-up.  They also talk about the new HD channels that you can't get with a cable card, but some of those channels aren't even in HD on our system that are talked about!  Where is Weather Channel HD?  Where is Planet Green HD? What happened to ESPNU HD?

It has been reported that other divisions are going to be getting TCM-HD and Tennis Channel HD.  What about Comedy Central HD and Spike TV HD?  Does anyone have any information as to when the next roll-out of HD channels is going to take place and what they will be?  It seems like it has been five months or more since we have had any new TWC HD acquisitions here in Wisconsin.  If they are holding back to prevent rate increases, that is understandable.  Even if they could add as little as two per month from the list, I would be happy.

What's coming out and what do you think is the hold-up preventing new services from occurring?  Actually, other states have reported a deal for TWC with The Weather Channel, but I think the last time I check TWC's-Milwaukee's website it said that they were in negotiations for a new contract.

Any updates?

You and I both know, like so many other TWC Milwaukee subscribers, that if you want to know what is coming for new HD channels, it's either one of two things:

1) Tim C. in the JS informs us in advance - that hasn't happened for a long time.

2) We see it on our channel guide when we turn our boxes/HDTVs on.

What is in the "legal notices" section in the TWC website is worthless, but it makes a signature tag line for me (for now).:D

IMO, TWC Milwaukee won't add any more HD channels until maybe late fall, when some folks are switching from them to U-Verse, Dishnetwork or Directv for HD service.

I doubt they'll add many more HD channels at all.  Honestly, after their blitz a few months back, I have to say I'm very pleased with the lineup.  I imagine a huge chunk of all subscribers are pretty satisfied as well.

It's very infrequent that I ever hit any SD channel these days, which means the programming I want to see is already on an HD channel.

I would also like to see more HD channels...i hate when i go over some of my friends houses that have uverse and directv and they have espn2 and comedy central and multiple hbos, showtimes, cinemax's, and starz ALL IN HD!!

I MEAN WHAT IS THE HOLD UP TWC! every other paid tv service in Milwaukee has at least 80 HD channels....sure some people may be satisfied with the current lineup...but there are still a lot of people who aren't...give the consumers what they want and quit playing games....

if anyone from TWC's upper level offices reads this forum please pass the message along that we want more hd channels! thanks in advance :)

Yes, MORE HD CHANNELS, Please!
I feel ripped off when I visit my friends with U-Verse with their multiple HBO HD channels to my one, among other non-premium HD channels for similar pricing that we don't have as TWC subs.:(

According to our Wisconsin Website, There Are More HD Channels Planned:

NatGeo Wild HD,
ID HD, DIY HD
History International HD
Cooking Channel HD

It's still in the section that says you can't get those stations with a cable card, but it looks like June.

Still waiting for HBO On Demand-HD and WGN America-HD.  No word on those channels yet:

Who Wants  more  Semi HDTV, when the Picture  Quality Isn't true HDTV and that includes all suppliers of HDTV, programing including Dish, Direct tv, Uverse, and TWC
and why should they, when the public demands quantity, over quality! You can also include local OTA stations of adding sub-channels, at the expense of HD Quality. Give me Blu-Ray anytime over any other delivery platform. It delvers superb video.

When TWC would add a bunch of channels at once, we would get pixiation for like a day or two, but than it would go away.  Our HD quality has been outstanding.  However, I have to agree that the sub-channels DO take up bandwidth.

As many of you in the Milwaukee and Metro area are aware, TWC often has THREE placeholders for the same channel.  One could be on the Standard Service band from 2-99.  The other could be on the Digital Tier, which is 100 and above, and the HD equivalent is in the 1000's.

Unfortunately, TWC's standard cable tier has to include local municipalities.  This helps in contract negotiations down the road.  For example, TWC and NBC reached an agreement that in order for TWC to show NBC programing on channel 4 and 1004 in HD, they MUST also carry SHOP-NBC, which is on the Standard cable teir.  Even though Milwaukee NBC has become almost exclusively a news and infomercial station because of budget constraints, the point is the local stations are still important for licensing agreements and for people on fixed income, who may not be able to afford cable beyond the standard service level, (or even broadcast basic.)

A very perplexing situation.

I live near and work in Illinois, so my perspective may be different from many here.
While I don't appreciate SDV as an application for adding more HD channels, the HD I get is often very clear, unless there are fast-moving scenes,  so it depends on the channel and SDV application in my area.
-That is why I would still like to switch to Directv once I can find and installer to figure out the SWM, whole-house DVR and cabling issues in my new place, including BBCAHD being added.:D

TWC is a choice or the only option for many, so when they first add a HD channel it does what Jack 1000 indicated, but then it returns to "normal" (for TWC) and subs get more HD channel selection once again.

My point about Illinois is one of my co-workers has Comcast and instead of battling out SDV, they are killing off analogue channels exception being a dozen or so - ones the you get with the most basic of cable service.
Recently, I was shown a subscriber's mail out Comcast sent to the household, detailing the digital box convertor for the analogue set to get the cable channels above basic service - 1st 2 boxes were free per month, the 3rd and above were $1.95 each monthly, with the regular cable boxes going for $7.95/month.
Self install was the norm, cable company install was extra, but the diagrams for the average person to use should be as  simple as a DVD installation, IMO.
So I am thinking if Comcast, the largest cable provider in the country can do this, why can't #2 TWC do this, too?

Why do subs have to put up with SDV-only from TWC service (if they have no other option than cable service)?
TWC: NYC and other areas are digital-only, too, with millions of subs, why the SDV-only application?
Seems a bit odd to me, that's all...
