New Forum Software

We have installed new software for our forums, and we're configuring it now to match the look of the new site (both of which will probably launch  early next week). The software we're upgrading to is VBulletin...the same one that AVS Forums uses (although our colors won't be like theirs).

But now is a good time to make changes in the way the categories and subcategories are named and arranged.  So we're looking for feedback on new categories, current ones that can be deleted or combined, etc.

BTW, we'll be importing all the existing threads on the current forums, so none of the valuable information here will be lost. If we need to move some threads to different areas if the new catogries are different, we can do that.

And you should also have a category for fox6 complaints, joking of course.

And don't forget to put a sticky thread at the top of the cable section, entitled "When will CBS be on TWC?"

QuoteFor certain split up OTA and TWC,

We're already planning on that.. but the dilemma is that there are two ways to do it. One way is like this:

Cable
-Programming
-Technical Issues

Over The Air
-Programming
-Technical Issues

Satelite
-Programming
-Technical Issues

The other is like this:

Programming
-Cable
-OTA
-Satellite

Technical Issues:
-Cable
-OTA
-Satellite

Any thoughts?

I also like more a second choice.
Also maaybe add "General"/"Common" item into each group.

How about eventually  adding a link to the forum on the main page?. The javascript  isn't available on Handspring's Blazer web browser.

ReesR

I personally use a Handspring Treo 300 and would love to see a pda version.

Another vote for the other/latter method. Looks to me like a slightly smoother drill-down from general to specific.

I prefer the later approach as well, just to add to the consensus.

tenth_t2

I'd say the latter also.

I also prefer the latter.  I can't wait to see the new site!

Ron Pollitt

I like the second choice also.  And Thanks to you Guys for the hard work associated with this forum and site.  I hope you're personally not taking a beating financially maintaining this site.  A voluntary donation to help maintain the site is certainly appropriate.  A posting of the address to send money or excess equipment for auction should be listed.

My company (Trivera) has had some available design and programming bench time, so I've been happy to let my guys do it.

The new site will have auctions and allow for paid ads...so there will be the opportunity to offset   some of the costs, if necessary.
