WKTI flipped formats at a little past noon today. They're now 94.5 Lake FM.. new calls WLWK. The format is known in the industry as "Jack."  The DJ's apparently have all been fired.

Another one bites the dust...

I'm really sick of the radio black hole Milwaukee is in.

It says a lot when  someone goes out of their way to listen to Madison and Chicago stations while still in the Milwaukee area.

That's what I've resorted to.   This just adds to the list of stations that switched to a format I don't like.

Off the top of my head...

Lazer 103,
Rock 102-one
106.9 The Point.  (short lived, but I did listen to it)

I can't think of anymore, but I know there were more.

And for those curious, info of the Jack format is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_FM

I'll take the opposite viewpoint here...  I for one, LOVE the new format.  I think its about time Milwaukee has something truly different.  That gives people real variety.  I listened to Jack-FM out of Chicago whenever I was down that way, and loved it.  I am glad to have something like that here too.

I hope this format succeeds and proves all they nay-sayers wrong.  While I am sad to see WKTI go away, especially considering its the station I grew up on (they flipped to WKTI just 9 months before I was born), as I've grown up I've become more diverse in my musical tastes, and I finally have one station that will satisfy my diverse musical taste.

The only stations I listen to are 88.9 (independent), and occasionally 91.7 (MSOE). Otherwise it's all XM or iPod in my car.

EmuZombie: The only stations I listen to are 88.9 (independent), and occasionally 91.7 (MSOE). You might wanna check those out. Otherwise it's all XM or iPod in my car. Plus now that XM has Howard as well as Opie & Anthony... well I couldn't be happier.

I was shocked when I heard on the news last night that WKTI is gone. I just about had a heart attack.

Well that means FM is dead in Milwaukee.

P.S. Perhaps THIS explains why last Sunday's Bucks game was on WSSP 1250 rather then WKTI 94.5.

Flipped through my presets in my car a few times today .. 94.5 completely sucked every time.    It wasn't that great to begin with, but now .. huge downgrade.

WDJT is conducting a poll on their website.

Current results.

Northern Fringe

I think it all started to go downhill when they quit "Flashback Fridays".  Seemed like they were a station looking for an identity for a while now.

1/3 stuff that is already on my ipod.

1/3 stuff that I've heard so many times before.

1/3 stuff that I absolutely cannot stand, change the station!

Even with the above track record, it's better than what WKTI had been doing recently.

I must say I'm enjoying having music in the morning, even though it's just temporary.  The past several weeks, finding actual music between 6:30 and 7:15 was an exercise in button pushing.  I'm glad the last morning crew is gone, just never warmed up to them-- and I'm not liking the new staff on the Brew either.  Overall the variety of the playlist is better, IMO.  There will always be some songs that some people don't like, and for that reason, radios have presets :)

OK, so they'll be The Lake.  Why are they changing to WLWK?  What does the 2nd W stand for?

Probably because that was the only call sign that fit and was available.
