Why aren't Brewers in HD tonight (7/22)?

I don't get it... why doesn't the Milw channels care about the HD customers?

I see the game is in HD on Extra Innings tonight - the St. Louis channel is carrying the game in HD... but our Milw stations don't give a crap about HD?

It seems like EVERY other baseball team shows most, if not all, their games in HD - but in Milw?  Maybe 25% at best!

I guess this figures - most markets have mutiple stations showing news in HD.. Milwaukee?  Nada.  Nothing.

It's no wonder that people look at Milwaukee and view us as a bunch of Redneck hicks... they may be right.

No HD news yet?   Few Brewers game in HD?  After it's been available for almost 10 years....  why are we always the last?  It is embarrassing......

You can't really blame Milwaukee stations for this.  The game was carried by Fox Sports North - this was their decision.

And, I don't have the numbers handy to back me up, but I'd say that your 25% guess is way low.

I agree about the local news, though.

Bluto - you are right, 25% is too low of a number.  I just saw on a website that claims FSN WI is doing 65 games - 40% of the total games - in HD.

It is just frustrating to see another FOX Sports outlet (STL) already doing the game in HD - and not understanding why FOX WI doesn't use the STL feed to show us the HD???

I don't care if they have more screen shots of STL players - I'd still rather see the game showing STL players in HD, rather than watching the SD broadcase.

And 40% of the games in HD in this day and age is still rather low.....I would have expected at least 75% or so by now...

Because FOX WI just can't grab someone else's feed without approval.  Its a copyright issue and involves money. Therefore they did their own shots.

John - wouldn't it be cheaper to use Fox Midwest's feeds last night (including the HD feed) instead of bringing down FOX WI's own cameras, crew, and production people???

I'll take it further.  In this day and age, I expect 100% HD.  Anything less is disappointing.

Personally, I think there should be a HD blackout of all home games that dont sell out.  Still broadcast in SD and on the radio, but black out the HD.  That way people will have to go to the park rather than tune in the HD to "feel like" they are in the park.  That might further improve attendance and give the team money to maintain and recruit talent.

Right now though it all comes down to money.  They could do every game in HD but it costs more money and the stations probably dont have the advertisers to pay for it.

You are probably right Mags, it probably would be cheaper. I do not know the real reason why they couldn't carry the feed?  I just assumed its the usual common copyright issues which to me is usually stupid. Its all about making money. We have a lot of greedy people in marketing and broadcasting. One of the main reasons why I support pirate broadcasting to non licensed transmitters and broadcast any material you want without permission.  All those greedy people out there not allowing us a chance to make some money on our own.  Your worst greedy people in this world are those oil well operators who love raising our gas prices like crazy.  A Billion dollars a day isn't enough to satisfy them, thus the reason why we are paying $4 per gal.
I hate rich people!

Monday's game was broadcast in HD on ESPN and FSN-Midwest but not FSN-WI.  Tuesdays game was broadcast in HD on FSN-Midwest but not FSN-WI.  Wednesday and Thursday's games are broadcast in HD on FSN-Midwest and FSN-WI.

It makes no sense that St. Louis would get all 4 games in HD but we only get 2.

cheap f'ers.  It has only been 21 years since Zenith introduced its digital HDTV system!

And, that's what is really frustrating about this.  If the equipment is in place at the stadium, and we're getting two of the four games in HD, why can't it be delivered for all four games?  What is the limitation?

Two possibilities (guesses, in other words):
- Production truck. FSN Midwest is produced out of one truck, FSN Wisconsin out of another. They might need to bring in a different, HD capable, truck to do HD broadcasts, and they don't always have that truck available to them.
- Satellite bandwidth. They probably don't own their own satellite, they lease space on someone else's satellite. And as a result, they may need to pay extra for the additional bandwidth that an HD broadcast would require.
