Ok, so the When We Left Earth series has been advertising for months that it's going to be an HD exclusive.  Can someone please explain to me why it's channel 41 and not on channel 541?  I looked in the guide and that's exactly how it shows up.  Discovery's site has it listed that way as well.  What a joke!  I've been so damn excited for this show.  Can anyone confirm how it's being showed on uverse and sat?

Channel 541 is HD Theater, not Discovery HD.. they're two different channels.  The series might be on HD Theater eventually, but not at the same time as the regular Discovery channel.  I'm pretty sure Dish, Directv and U-verse all have Discovery HD in addition to HD Theater.

Unfortunately kevbeck is correct. We get HD Theater, not Discovery HD. :(

Part of the confusion arises from the fact that the channel now named "HD Theater" was originally named "Discovery HD Theater," which got shortened by many people (including Time Warner) to "Discovery HD." However, now there is a separate channel that is ACTUALLY named "Discovery HD," that is an HD simulcast of the standard Discovery Channel.

And of course, Time Warner has yet to update the guide data... it still shows the old "Discovery HD Theater" logo, and it is shortened in the guide data to "DISC HD." I'd contact Time Warner about it, but the chances of the message being relayed to the people who do the guide data (and actually having them do anything about it) is negligible.

I had no idea.  What a joke.  $180 a month for cable and internet and I still don't to watch the shows I want.  Oh well.

The first segment was very very interesting.  Obviously the older footage isn't in HD but still looked pretty good and all of the currently filmed stuff was in HD.  Even if you don't get this channel in HD watch the series.

Well, yes and no. The old footage was transferred to high definition from the original films. In fact, still today most of the HD content you watch that's a movie or tv series was shot on film and then later transferred to HD. The only difference with this show is that's it's very old film. A well maintained 35mm film can still technically hold more detail than even 1080p HDTV.

Typical TWC.....................put up HD channels full of repeats and stuff no one watches and then claim they have no bandwidth for Discovery Channel when something really worthwhile comes along..................I can free up some bandwidth................dump the lesbo channel, half the shopping channels, the church channels, etc etc..................yeah like that will happen.
