8300 Hdc Wtf?

So in prelude of DirecTV coming out, (we aren't quite ready yet), we brought TW back in to bring us a DVR. My wife is still ****ed about it but moving on! We got the new 8300 HDC with Navigator. Previously we had the aptiv I think it was. It sucked but man it did not suck ANYTHING like the Navigator stuff.

Before I go into a 3 page bitch. I seriously need to know if I am the only experiencing the whole missed recordings thing. I have literally missed 6-8 recordings in 2 days. I check, its set to record, leave the house, come home. Nothing. I check the guide, its not even set to record any more. Series seem and I say seem because I have not tested at length yet, but they seem ok. It is my manual, one off, recordings that it just decideds, eh, not going to record those for you. I missed the packer special the other night. I am just furious. Why do I even have a dvr if I cannot record anything? Am I missing something? Is there some trick to be able to record my manual shows? The only thing I could sort of think might be an issue is I usually turn the box off when I am gone. Never had an issue with dvr being off and still recording before. Does it no longer record if you turn it off? :huh?:

It is so slow... If you are recording 2 shows and watching another. Prepare for jitters jatters and stutters..

Anyways I would appreciate anyone elses thoughts. This is miserable..

Jack 1000 has a song for Crapagator, er, Navigator.
...but it was for Christmastime...maybe you can think of something our forum can sing without getting in too much trouble...:rof:

This is Navigator, or a version thereof...enjoy...sorry to hear you got the 8300HDC box instead of a 8300HD box (no C for card).
I doubt if you can find one without the C at the end or not, others may have...anybody?

Look into avsforums for answers, if that helps you.
If this is what it becomes without fixing it, more will move to other options.
-It will finally push us TWC DVR subs over the "edge"
...it has you already!

Basshive,

Man!  That sucks!  Sorry to hear about your frustrations with Navigator (a.k.a "Crapigator.")  Our conversion to the non-C boxes is supposed to be sometime in March.  (I have Passport now, and am not looking forward to this change-over.)  However, it should be noted that the non-C boxes being changed over to Navigator are having much better results.

The problem is these integrated Cable Card C-boxes.  They suck no matter what software is used on them.  Your best bet is to try these things:

1.) Call TWC (follow the scripted bs of waiting on hold for 20 mins) and schedule a service call to replace the box.  But you need to say that you need a NON-C box.  They might be able to have a tech bring one out to you.  The C-boxes seem to suck, regardless of the IPG that is on them.  The cable cards were mandated by the FCC and were not properly tested with the boxes before release.

2.) The later C boxes seem to be doing a little better, but the non-C boxes are still the least buggy.  You can try rebooting with Navigator (takes a good 5 minutes) by unplugging the box than plugging it back in.

3.) If you can't get a non-C box, all you can do is exchange the damn thing until you find a C-box that works.  All of the non-C boxes are used.  If you can't get a non-C box, ask for a NEW (not refurbished) C-box.  The people that I have talked to have their boxes seem to work ok, but they have to do like 2 C-box swaps to get one that works.

The AVS Forums have a Navigator section with tons of help.  I am registered over there as Satch Man.  You should sign up.  The info that I have on Navigator is that if you have a stable box, it SEEMS to be ok in our Wisconsin area.  But in other divisions nationwide, it has been a nightmare, hence the name, "Crapigator."  Sign up at the AVS forums.  Here is a link to the Navigator thread there:

Let me know what happens.  How long have you had this box before the recording issues started happening?  Some have had success with a once-twice a week reboot manually.  I would still recommend trying to get a non-C box.
