I have a buddy that has finally decided to make the switch. Myself, I've had Direct TV for 10 years now. He talked to a rep today to discuss programming options, but they still want to charge him $200 for the HD box and installation.

Are there any options or any advice about getting D* to throw this in? He's looking to save money any way he can.

Has he considered Dish Network? They usually have better deals than Directv. Check out Satelliteguys.us. They really know their stuff over there.

He wants Direct TV because of the HiDef channels and the sports packages.

Over at DBSTalk they are indicating that the deals have dried up as of late.  Seems like they have all the business they can handle without having to give deals/credits.  Now what will happen in the next few weeks is anyones guess.

Try the "CSR Roulette" and you might find a better deal, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
