The one (and only as far as I'm concerned) advantage to cable was VOD.  DTV will be offering VOD soon, it's now in Beta.  A good first step. And if you want it now just go to the CE forum over there.

Having to download the show rather then have instant on my screen action is not good at all.

If it's anything like downloading movies and tv shows from xbox live, then it's not a very long wait til when you can play it.  It also says some content is pushed through the sat rather than the internet.  I'd assume that would come on nearly the instant you request it.

I got in on this CE - and I can say, It starts playing rather quickly....

A small price to pay for better picture quality and HD content over TWC in my opinion...

I've seen it in action in person.. with any highspeed line including your typical DSL package SD content begins playing almost immediately.

HD content is another story entirely. The line I saw this in action on was an 8Mbps RR line and the movie started playing between 10 and 20 minutes. However dbstalk has horror stories of HD programming taking a couple hours to start for 20 minute shows and as bad as 5-6 hours for movies.

unlike cable, the speed of your internet connection directly affects this. however it seems anyone with a 6-8mbps line should be able to watch HD content without too bad a wait.

Good time to get RR turbo.

Any word on when it will be rolling out to the general public? I'm bummed I missed that CE. For some reason, I stopped getting the notifications.

no clue when the national is rolling out, though a number of the dbstalk mods are guessing there might be a few more CE's before then.

There is a CE rolling out tonight and tomorrow night between 10pm-1pm central. Unlike the past 2 CE's, Earl specifically removed the "no VOD code" line despite it being left in the notes for the last CEs. I definitely wouldn't take that to mean an enable code will be in there, but I know I'm sure going to download the CE tonight.. :D

oh, you have to resubscribe to the new thread on dbstalk for notifications. they redid the notification thread.

Yeah, I've re-subbed, and am planning to DL the CE tonight if I don't collapse from exhaustion first (been some long and brutal weeks at work lately).

When remote booking becomes active and you are bored at work you can setup a bunch of DOD stuff ahead of time. When you get home all done! :)
