Quote from: PaulKTF;39755I wonder if anyone will be able to pry WVCY TV-30 from Vic The Vampire's hands? What a waste of airspace that is..

It would be a waste of airspace because?

Ch. 31/30 sat empty from 1952 until Vic put WVCY-TV on-the-air in 1983. WMIL had a CP for it, but turned it in and applied for Ch. 6 after hearst got the FCC to drop it into Milwaukee's Table of Channel Assignments. Then WFOX had a CP between 1955-1960, which they lost after not building the station. Then the Standard Broadacsting Co. promised to build the first WMKE-TV in 1969. They never did.

You couldn't give away a UHF license in this town for many years. That was a waste of airspace -- and what drove land-mobile and others to petition the FCC to give them those unused channels. The NAB responded with the argument that they would need all of the UHF spectrum for bigger channel bandwidths for HDTV -- something no one was clamoring for. That led to development, and eventually to digital standards.

You may not agree with his programming, but at least Vic used an available channel when no one else wanted it.

Let's. hope whoever the new owner might be,  they would convince Rubert Murdoch, to offer quality programming, and would consider channel 10 there competition.

Um... Rupert wouldn't have any say as to what the new owners put on the air during the hours that FOX isn't braodcasting. Aside from that, the audience that would watch FOX and the audience that would watch Channel 10 rarely intersect.
