Great - let TWC-Milwaukee know how happy you are, now that they gave us TWC HD subs a "bone"...now fetch.

Where is 542 (A&EHD), 546 (MHD), 518 (CW18HD) and 524 (My24HD)?

Where are these, TWC-Milwaukee?

Oh yeah, TWC-Milwaukee is "special" and doesn't think Milwaukee deserves to get those HD channels that the rest of TWC's locations are already getting, including:
Premium HD channels CinemaxHD and StarzHD (I already subscribe to these in SD).

Recently, I recorded some movies on the SD channels using the DVR for later viewing, found these were available on CinemaxHD and StarzHD (in the recorded beginning), but the only way I knew I was going to get them in HD is if I rented or bought them on high definition DVD.

Thanks for nothing, TWC-Milwaukee!

ESPN2HD is great for the sports fans, but where are the other HD channels we're still missing?

Do we wait another year for another "bone"???

I just had a lengthy chat with TWC... They claim that as a cablecard customer I can not get ESPN2HD, because it is part of the "Digital Access Package" which is the on demand channels and the music choice channels.  They also said ESPNHD is moving to that package from the HD package, and that I would be loosing that channel soon.  I currently get every non on demand channel except for HBO etc, but only because I choose not to get those.

I really don't understand why TWC would put only two channels ESPNHD and ESPN2HD in their on demand and music package.  This doesn't make any sense and I think the "engineering department" the rep spoke to is full of it.

On wednesday my TV started showing channel 528 and it even calls it ESPN2HD, it just shows some PPV previews or something instead of ESPN2HD.

Any other cablecard people out there seeing this?

RonH:
In San Antonio, TX, where they have 24 full time HD channels, not including PPV and those almost-never-on sports channels (like our 531), the MHD and A&EHD channels are not available with cablecards.
I think this is because SDV is coming out or already there, just not fully out.
SDV acts like an on-demand channel system, only its instananeous and requires some sort of two-way communication current cablecards do not offer.
This could be that on-demand thing discussed...just a thought here.

I've decided to keep U-verse until the end of the year despite the disappointing picture quality on some HD channels.  I'll give them a chance to get the kinks worked out.  I switched because of the lack of channel adds especially ESPN2HD.  So a month after I cancel they finally add it.  I very much would like to go with TWC and a Cablecard Media Center PC but this is what makes me pause.  SDV could very will kill that dream.  I'm waiting to see what happens as TW bring SDV to the table.  If they are going to keep popular channels like that away from Cable Card users then they can go frak themselves.  I sure hope this doesn't come to pass.

Cable card and direct connects are as good as dead with switch digital anyway. 2way cable cards are a must and should have been the only non-box choice in the first place,

Although I've seen no formal announcement, I think ESPN2HD may be the first channel to be rolled out as SDV for TWC milwaukee.  I wish the resps would have just told me this instead of making up a bunch of false info that didn't make sense.  And ESPNHD is next.  Obviously, the selection of these two very popular channels is an attempt to eliminate the cablecards from their customer base and make us all get the $10 box.

So, all you people paying Time Warner for the HD package are essentially paying for 4 channels now that ESPN and ESPN2 are part of another package?  I seem to be receiving both of them, and I never found the HD package worth the cost.

ESPN2HD is not SDV

RonH

How do you know it is not SDV?  Even if it isn't, the TWC rep claims it is part of the "Digital Access" Package only, which includes on demand content, and apparently now one regular channel.  He said I can't get ESPN2HD because it is part of the digital access package which cablecard customers can not get because on demand contect obviously doesn't work with the cablecard.

I think I may just need to call again and get a different rep.

Man that is great news, it's about time, you have to wonder if the pressure of AT&T had anything to do with it.

I have a cable card along with the Digital Access Package.  I'm also seeing the preview channel on 528, and can't see ESPN2-HD anywhere.  But the really interesting development for me is that I can now view ESPN-HD on 530.  I wonder what is going on here?

I have the digital access package (with DVR - not CableCard), but never paid for the HD package because I didn't think it was worth it.  I'm getting both ESPN and ESPN2 HD.  Seems like they're either giving us a free preview (not sure why we would get ESPN HD as well if they were) or they already made it part of the digital access package.  I'm hoping for the latter...

Even so, I'm still not satisfied.  I'm hoping the competition will force them to up the ante on rolling out more HD channels.  If not, I will be leaving them soon...

RLJSlick

I totally agree with that, I'm very glad we finally got ESPN HD 2, but it was long time coming and I want more then the one channel that we should have had a year ago. This is a start, and I think if AT&T can stay around long enough I think we will see a lot more coming from TWC. Well we better see more any way. :D

Any enlightenment here?  Sure sounds like SDV!

My question to TWC:
I have a cable card and the Digital Access package. I've read in a couple of places that you've recently added ESPN2 HD to this package. But all I see on channel 528 (along with a few others, such as 148, 157, 182) is a TWC preview channel. (although the channel label reads ESPN2 HD) How can I watch ESPN2 HD?

Their answer:
Thank you for writing to Time Warner Cable.
Unfortunately, the only way to receive ESPN2 HD and the select few other channels you mentioned is with a HD cable converter and remote.

My follow-up question to TWC:
What is different about ESPN2 that it is not available via cable card?

Their answer:
The channel ESPN2 is on is part of a package which would require 2-way communication to activate within your home. This is why a cable converter is required.
