Anyone else having 006-1 problems?

Someone said Idol was unwatchable the other night. It's ALWAYS unwatchable to me due to it being some of the lowest form of junk television to come around in years. The show itself is awful enough but then Fox 6 has to devote 20% of their newscast to it on Tuesday night. Since WHEN is this garbage considered news?:Shoot: American Idiot

Will do Wiebs!;)

Watched 30 minutes of the race and some other programing have not seen any issues.

Anyone still having problems?

Tried to watch the Nascar race tonight, I have a strong 84% signal but I had constant breaking up and dropping of signal. It was unwatchable, hope they fix it soon races are on Fox until June.

I had zero problems during football season.

I should mention I receive via OTA (antenna)  also and had no issues.
I believe that it affects some receivers but not all with their equipment change.

Still have not heard if they switched back or not, or if that is even the problem.

Just a note a strong signal with digital only tells a part of the story a better measure is signal quality.  Too many bit errors due to various reasons will cause
drop outs and pixelations also.

I have been typically getting breakups on OTA 6-1.  I've noticed it the last few weeks watching 24 & Idol.  It's been so annoying that I can't watch it and end up watching the SD versions of the shows on a different TV/DVR.  But, last night, I was watching Nascar and was expecting breakups, but surprisingly got none. :) So, we'll see for Monday during the 2hr 24.

I too have been having the same problem (dropouts and pixelation) with Fox 6 for the last three weeks.  I and two of my friends from other areas of Milwaukee also were having the same problems listed above starting about the week of  Nov 13 2006.  I sent an e-mail to Fox 6 on Nov 22 explaining what I what we we're seeing, or more accurately not seeing.  I am still waiting for a reply.

I will say the first week of Dec 2006 things cleared up.  Then about three weeks ago everything went south.

I saw the other article indicating that Fox 6 was going to change some equipment.

I have Dish's HDTV DVR VIP 622 and a Toshiba 62MX195 with an atsc tuner.  When I watch through the DVR I experience the  problem listed above.  When I watch through the TV atsc tuner I experience some pixelation and the dropout problem seems to stop.  I would prefer to watch through the DRV.

Not sure if any of the technical people or upper management  from the local TV stations are members of this website or even read any of the forums.  This  would be a great vehicle to get these problems solved.  Then again the TV stations may be like a lot of service businesses in the country and just don't care.

Yeah the problem is still there for me as of Sunday evening.  Standard Definition is just fine but who wants to watch anything in SD if you don't have to right?

Yikes, aside from being a little off topic, did you get up on the wrong side of the bead this morning?

For me Fox 6 is also unwatchable due to breakups.  I have a Dish Network VIP622.  My OTA antenna goes thru a splitter to both the VIP622 and my TV.  If I watch directly with the TV, no problems.

I saw earlier comments about rotating the antenna, which was stated to help with the problems by reducing the signal strength.  What helped in my case was I just added attenuation in line with my antenna to bring the displayed signal strength to the 68-74 range.  For whatever reason, this cleared up the dropout problem.  This was mentioned in another forum and  it seems to work, at least for me.  That sort of would imply a receiver problem but from these comments I see it could be a combination of factors.  A couple of days earlier before I learned this, I complained to Dish and they're sending me another VIP622, but we'll see if that makes any difference.

Yes adding an attenuator to the feedline will help in some situations.  These are where there is inteference or reflected signals (multipath), which cause "Symbol Interference" in the decoding stream.  By attenuating the signals when you have a very strong signal, you drop the reflected signals much more than the main signal and now the signal to noise ratio improves and the symbol interference goes away.

Please keep me posted if the new VIP622 works. I have the same setup as you and this is driving me nuts!!! I cannot rotate my antenna since my motor died. Thanks in advance

Quote from: Wieb27;37612Hey Brad, thanks for the heads up.  I'll leave my antenna the way it is for now but with hopes they resolve this issue.  It stinks not having Fox6 in HD!

I never heard back from them in regards to this either.  You'd think they would take a second to at least inform a viewer that they're working on the problem! :bang:

Keep me posted if you find anything else out!  (benwieb at gmail.com)  :guitar:

Fox must be doing something.  Off and on, 6-1 pixelates like crazy (OTA), and that only means one thing -- low power.  Why, oh why doesn't Fox simply announce what they're doing so we all don't run around looking at antennas, cables, etc.???

There's nothing like treating your customers as something better than village idiots.

Since this seems to be a recent problem with a very sudden onset, and apparently plagues many viewers located in multiple counties, it wouldn't seem to be caused by multipath or excessive signal--at least not universally.  In my case, tweaking antenna azimuth helps (sometimes I'll go 24 hours without a dropout)but they always seem to return.  But only on WITI; I have zero problems with any other channel.

Has anyone actually been in contact with Channel 6?  Do they even know viewers are having problems?

No response from them!!!! Wonderful customer service!!!!

Last night, I watched 2 hours of Idol and the hour of news. I don't think I had any dropouts. Let's hope they fixed whatever they were doing!!!:)
