As a side note, TWC's site, http://www.nflgetreal.com , now simply redirects back to the main TWC site.

Why blame TWC, when the NFL, won't allow the consumer to have a choice of wether they want the NFL channel,  or not  and thats the  reason the NFL is denying us the option of choosing to subscribe because, they know few would choose to subscribe.  We all have to pay for that channel or no one gets it.  Maybe the NFL channel should go the pay per view route. After all the NFL already got  3 billion dollars from TV thanks to NBC, ESPN, CBS, and  FOX but I guess 3 billion dollars is not enough to feed the fat cats of the NFL. They have to raise the cable bill by another dollar a month to show eight more NFL games all what a bargain that is.

It depends, actually.
For me it is a bargain.
I love NFL:)

This is a classic argument. We ALL pay for channels that we do not want, that is the bottom line. To say "oh we all have to pay for your NFL Network channel" is silly because we already do it for many many channels, some of which I bet you yourself enjoy but I do not . To you it is 8 more NFL games, to those who enjoy the channel it is a hell of alot more than that so yes to some it is quite a bargain. In any event, I would stop using the old "eight game" statement, while yes we will miss games, that is not the only reason for the channel to exist.

Good post.  There are dozens of channels I never watch and others love and I'm paying for them to be included.  I have DirecTV and have enjoyed the NFL Channel quite a bit, it's a lot more than "8 games".  I can do without the 95 shopping channels.

tencom

Of course the shopping channels don't cost you anything, unless you buy there Merchandise all costs are borne by the purchasers of there products. In fact the cable/satelite providers get a percentage from each sale

At least we are fortunate enough to be able to block all unwanted channels @ DTV.

Comcast Adds NFL Network HD
The channel airs eight regular season games.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (August 1, 2007) -- Comcast has added the HD version of the NFL Network to its high-def lineup in select cities.

The channel, which is owned by the National Football League, airs eight regular season games in high-def (and standard def) during the second half of the season.

This season, it will air 34 of 52 pre-season games in high-def, starting with this Sunday night's Hall of Fame game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints at 8 p.m. ET.

Thanks alot gb4fan92!!!! As if I was not already peeved enough you have to drop that atom bomb :P  I am even more frustrated because TWC touts that I will be able to see all my local teams games and while I am a die hard Packer fan I am a fan of football as a whole so missing out on all the pre-season and any regular season games they might be airing really blows.

I never thought I would say it but I would even settle for the SD version of NFL Network, now that is desperate!  Thankfully the QB Competition airs on ESPN this weekend so we get to see something (sarcasm).

I'm fully on TWC's side on this one. Why should all customers have to pay for and get what is very obviously a niche interest channel? A sports tier is EXACTLY where the NFL Network (and the Big Ten network likewise) belong.

The NFL might try and spin their position as a "consumer friendly" position, but in reality, it's strictly in their self-interest, not the consumer's interest at all. They want to force everyone to get the NFL network, because that means they can potentially charge advertisers more (more potential eyeballs watching), and they can charge Time Warner more (because they charge TWC per-subscriber that receives the channel).

In my opinion, the Golf Channel should likewise be in the sports tier. The only sports channels I can see being basic channels would be ESPN and FSN, because they have a broad enough programming selection that they appeal to a wide subscriber base.

I'm sorry to you NFL fans that lose out in this dispute. I'm a Packer fan myself, but at the same time, I have zero interest in watching the NFL Network. I might watch a Packer game there, but that's it... there would be nothing at all to compel me to watch it any other time, and to be forced to pay for a channel I don't want to watch.

I was reading the Wall Street Journal today, on the front page is a story about the NFL Network vs. Cable Companies.  In the second paragraph, they state that now Comcast Corp. "yanked the NFL Network out of millions of homes".  Is this accurate?  Did this just happen?  It goes on to state the NFL tried to stop Comcast by suing, but lost.  The case is now on appeal.

This talk combined with the fact a year or two ago the NFL was looking into stopping any and all free Fantasy Football leagues stating the NFL owned the statistics generated by the League.  I'm not sure where they are in that process, but the grasp on our wallets the NFL is attempting here just sickens me.

I love the Pack, but I am beginning to dislike the NFL brass...

While TWC and the NFL play who has the biggest wee wee, I'll be enjoying the NFLN :)   Yes it's a niche.  So are 95% of the channels TWC (and DTV) have.

Comcast, after winning this suit, just switched NFL network from the "Digital Classic" package to the Sports Tier.  This did remove it from many households.  I'm sure many people did add the sports tier, but most people will not.  For those of us that already had the sports tier, there really wasn't any change, other than the fact that they did also add NFL-HD.  I do watch NFL quite often & it is one of the networks that, after having it, I would have looked into switching to another provider if it was to be totally removed.

The same could be said for all the shopping networks as well. Why not put them on a shopping tier?  And while you're at it why not put all children's shows on a children tier? Then there's the music channels. My point is that I for one am tired of having to pay extra for things I want ( HDTV Tier ) and also pay for the programming I don't want. (Music channels). I'm sure most people watch less than half if not two thirds of the channels they currently are paying for . As more and more new channels are becoming available the need for ala carte programming seems to be the more practical way of satisfying everyones taste.   smilie_flags_kl
