What is it and what do you need for playback? Also what is it,480p,720p,1080i?

Actually it's D-VHS, digital VHS. There are a couple models out, but the JVC with the proprietary D-Theater seems to be the best one. Here is a link:

Mitsubishi also makes 2 d-vhs models, but you need to supply it the HD signal.  This option may make sense if you have a Mitsubishi set with a integrated tuner already, or have some other device that can supply the digital signal via firewire.  I'd check with a retailer though that sells them to avoid any compatibility issues, or atleast be able to return the unit should that come up.  The 1100 model looks to be about $500, the 2000 model was similar to the JVC in price, about $1000-- but it looks like the JVC includes the digital tuner.

edit-- o, this is silly.  the 4 **** need to be replaced with letters shot.  Then change the "o" to an "i".  The forum software doesn't like that "word"

Stay away from D-VHS. It's the "pioneers" toy that will go away soon. D-Vhs is a temporary high def recording until HD DVD players come out in the next year or so. The standards are already in place. I will post more when I find the links.

Well, there is more to the HD-DVD formats, and it won't be ready any time soon.

D-VHS is the absolute best there is right now in video quality. I wouldn t worry about HD-DVD as its about 2 to 4 years away (although I am sure it will be out sooner!)
Enjoy it!! HD movies completely blow away even the best looking DVD transfers!! Shrek on HBO-HD is proof!

Oops.. it's smart enough to know the difference.  Just needed an admin that knew what he was doing to set it up right. ;)  I'll fix it...

MitsubiSHITv contains one of the words that our software turns into *'s to keep young, pure or easily offended eyes from seeing them.

Occasionally one of them occurs innocently within another word, and the swear filter needs to be set to allow those words to be spelled without a bunch of **** in the middle (or in this WITH **** in the middle).  ;)

It's configured correctly now...
