Lots of questions are coming up about E* new HD receivers but I have two quick questions to those of you who may know now.

If I get a two tuner receiver do they charge me like I have two receivers or just one?

If I have two DVR's do they charge me a DVR fee for each or is it a one shot deal?

This may help me decide to go to the VIP622 vs. the VIP211.

Two tuner receivers are charged as if you only had one receiver.. as long as it's plugged into a phone line.  You will get charged a DVR fee for each DVR you have.

I did see a new fee though.. $5 or $6 a month in order to receive HD programming in addition to the normal fees for the HD package.. unless I misread that in some of the forums I read.

Fees with Dish depend on programming you order.
I have everything pack with HD DVR 942 and HD 811. My fees: DVR fee = $0.00, DVR receiver - $0.00, second receiver fee - $5.00.
So if you get two tuner receiver you will not pay a fee for decond tuner. And Dish two tuner receiver allows to watch two different channels on two TVs at the same time. Fee for second, third,... receivers - %5.00 for each receiver. DVR fee is $5.00 per DVR. Again with everything pack DVR fee is waved.
From Feb. 1, DVR fee will go up to $6.00, also fee for extra receiver will go up to $6.00.
Now with Dish if you own equipment you can select any programming you want. For ex. you can watch only International package or only HD Pack without ordering AT60, AT120 or AT180 packs. In that case Dish charged extra $5.00. IT will be $6.00 after Feb 1. So the current HD Pack + Voom Pack only is $10 + $5.00 + $5.00(fee) = $20.00 for 15 national HD channels.
From Feb 1, Voom will go up to 15 channels and will be part of new HD Pack. It will cost $20.00 if you order it with AT60, AT120 or AT180. New HD Pack will include 23 national HD channels with two more (HGTV and FOOD) coming shortly.
Standalone HD pack will cost $30.00 + $6.00 fee = $36.00.
If you ask about receivers. HD DVR is the way to go. I have 942 HD DVR and it is owesome, very fast, easy to use, 30 sec skip forward and 10 sec. skip back buttons, so you do not need to browse through commercials - just click 5-6 times skip button and enjioy the show again. New MPEG4 Vip622 HD DVR is based on 942 with the same software, only different MPEG4 chip. Everybody expects it to be good to go right away. I will wait for April in order to get existing customers upgrade rebate $200.

AndrewP-

Only having a single tuner sd dvr, I was curious if the two tuner HD Dvr can record either of the tuners while watching the other on the firt or second tv.  What I mean is
can I record in SD on the second tv.  WHile watching tv in hd on the first tv.  My guess is yes. and can I also do this vice versa?

With two tuner Dish HD DVR you can record three different programs in HD (two off satellite and one off OTA) at the same time and watch one of these recorded programs or any pre-recorded program. This is done in single mode. When in dual mode each TV owns a tuner, that means you can record two HD programs from main HDTV (one off satellite and another off OTA) and one SD program from second SDTV.
Second TV outputs only SD signal.
What I did, I connected main TV with component cables to DVR, then connected DVR with projector in the basement with HDMI cable (25' - $26). Also split toslink audio to receivers in the living room and the basement. Now I can watch both TV and projector at the same time. I don't even use anymore 811 receiver and will probably return it and save $5 second receiver fee.

Well thanks for all the tidbits AndrewP.  Even though I had all intentions of
changing out my 811 for a 211, I was on the phone with the CSR, and I could not help myself, I had to have the latest and greatest.  Hopefully the 622 will be as good or better than the 942. I am anticipating it's arrival. I called near 5pm and have to wait until a March 4th install. In the mean time I have to run one more RG6 cable to the location behind my hd set to allow two cables to connect to the back of my new 622 coming from the dish.  What a mess of cables back there.  Off air, satellite one, and cable to go to other receiver in the house.  Anyway the next month will be a struggle.

You don't need a second cable. The receiver comes with Sish separator, which has one input and two outputs for DVR tuners. But if you plan to use it in dual mode (watch second SD TV programs), then you need to connect coax output of the receiver with TV2  input (or switch for multiple TVs).

Andrew you are confusing me.  I have seen the back of the 622, there are two satellite inputs.  I off air input, and one tv2 rf output.   My plan was to connect the off air antenna to its input.  Connect the two rg6 wires from my dish to the back of the 622 so that I can feed my hd set and a second sd set in another room to watch different programming on each tv.  Are you saying I only need to connect one of the satellite inputs and leave the other open.  What is a dish separator?

Sounds like you can combine the signals into one cable coming from the dish, but then once you get to the 622 use the seperator to plug a cable into both satellite inputs.

AndrewP

Correct. Dish separator looks and behaves like a regular splitter with one input from dish and two outputs to satellite tuners.
So technically you need only one line from the dish to the receiver.
Now, for OTA you will need another line. Don't know if diplexer will work. But you can try.
Then, if you want to use the receiver in the dual mode (watch two different channels on main HDTV and second SDTV), another coax line will be needed from the receiver to the second TV.
