I just can't find the info I am looking for so for a first time poster here I go.  

I am all set up for the TV and the antenna is installed by Kemmer TV (great job btw) and now I want to know how I can record HD with only an OTA set up.

Wife won't let me get DTV or TWC because of the kids (trying to limit their TV viewing)

Is there anything that can do this besides the VHS-D?

If there are DVR's that will do this any recommendations?  TIA

The only unit I know about at this time is Toshiba's Symbio, this unit works with any TV that is firewire enabled with the TVGuide EPG.

You can put a tuner card in a PC and record OTA HDTV that way.

So far, my MythTV setup works the best. But it is a Linux operating system. If you're not familiar with Linux, it may be more than you can deal with.

My ATI HDTVWonder card gives me a good picture, on WindowsXP. But recording with it has not yet been perfected. I did run it under Windows Media Center Edition 2005, for a while, and then it recorded perfectly.

I've heard good things about the DVICO line of cards. Some of the forum members have them. If you go this route, maybe they can give some info on them.

You can still find the LG 3410A online some places.  It's a HD based DVR with Firewire.    If you're going to build a whole DVR box yourself, it might be cost effective, but at $400 from most vendors it's not cheap.  I'd be more inclined to get an MDP-130 and stick it in a $200 PC for that price.

Do you play back your recordings to a TV or a computer monitor?  I guess I really want to do this, but I want it to work as well as my TWC HD DVR, and I want to control it all from a remote and watch it on my HD LCD TV.

If you have MCE 2005 all you need is to buy the remote about $40 online.  if you video card has outputs to the tv (component) or if you tv has DVI you should have no problems connecting and running it like that.

Actually, I have it playing back to both, using clone mode on my video card. I use the regular monitor output for my monitor, and I'm using the S-Video output to feed my old Sony standard definition tv.

My iMon remote has a setup to use it as a WMCE remote, but there are many remotes that can do the same thing. The ATI HDTV Wonder came with a USB remote, but I haven't tried it for watching TV or recordings.

I guess the output depends alot on the video card you have. You will need a Digital Video output to feed a HD TV.

There is also another way to connect a video screen. If your display only has component inputs (Y Pb Pr), you can use an adapter. Here is an example of one:

Someone told me about these guys in another thread, and they are by far the least expensive source for a lot of this stuff... cables, connecters, etc.... that I've been able to find. Good service and fast shipping, too.
