SA 8000DVR Audio Dropouts

This weekend, I started getting audio dropouts on Live TV.  The audio cuts in/out every few seconds.  Shows recorded on DVR do not experience this.  Also, if I am watching Live TV and hit rewind and play it buffered, audio is fine...or if I record a show and play it back.

This is only an issue with the optical output to my receiver (Onkyo).  I tested sending analog outputs to my TV and that did not experience the issue.

Speaking of which... Jimboy - has anyone been looking into the one or two audio dropouts per hour on WB18 when it's in HD? It was even worse during sunday's Supernatural... there were probably 5 or so dropouts (it's not my signal - there's other people reporting the same thing).

To answer your questions:

1)  My Onkyo is TX-SR702 - not one of the models listed (thanks for the thought...and the link...though).  Also, it occurs plain stereo - not just dolby.

2)  I am experience dropouts.  Sometimes it sounds like a CD skipping - quite rapid.  Consider the phrase "A quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".  It would sound like "A q...c..b...fx..j...v...z...g".  Sometimes it sounds like "A quick...b....x..jumps over...t...z...dog".  I do not hear static

The reason I don't believe it's the receiver is because if I'm watching a show, I can rewind it and play it back just fine.  I have shows recorded (before this issue cropped up) that playback just fine.  I can still record a show now and playback just fine.  It's only Live TV.  Surely, the receiver or the optical cable can't be at fault...can it?

Problem resolved. TWC swapped out the box (somehow lost my HD subsription, now, though...on hold now for 19 minutes...)

I just signed on to look into the same situation with the SA-8300.  It's been doing the same thing for me, I can almost count on 1-2 drops per hour while watching an HD feed.  Live vs recorded.  Does not seem to effect SD.

Very Annoying..... So, new box?  That's not good...

Is there a fix?  I see that others are having similar issues, so I'll continue the dialog in that thread-- I missed it originally.

I don't know if there ever was a fix, other than constantly shutting the unit off and then on.  The best fix is to get rid of it and get an 8300.

8300 is better but not immune.  I'll try to get some timeline on a patch.

The 8300 is definitely guilty of this as well, and while it seems to happen very rarely for me, whenever it does happen, it's always at the worst possible time.
