Quote from: BebopBut, you have to use your TV's tuner if you want to watch a third channel while recording 2 at the same time.

If your TV has a HDTV tuner, that is.

Just curios, is it possible with HD TIVO to record two sat. HD programs and 1 OTA HD program and watch another program using DVR?
With Dish HD DVR 942 it is possible.

The HD Tivo has 2 tuners.  Therefore you can record 2 sat, 2 OTA, or 1 sat & 1 OTA at the same time.  You can also watch a third program from the HD while recording on both of the tuners.

With the HD Tivo you can:
  • Record 2 sat channels and watch a pre-record show
  • Record 2 OTA channels and watch a pre-recorded show
  • Record one sat and one OTA channel and watch a pre-recorded show
  • Record either a sat or OTA channel and simulateously watch with a sat or OTA channel live

As we record 95% of our HD programs from OTA, I find two OTA tuners better than the ability to record 2 sat and one OTA simultaneously.

Edit: Darn!  Beaten by a few minutes...

Agree 100%, two OTA tuners is great, I hope they put a second OTA tuner to 942 MPEG4 replacement.
But I find that viewing two different programs on two TVs with 942 is also great. So D* should add this feature to their HD TIVO MPEG4 replacement.

Am I correct in assuming the HD TiVo receiver has 2 built in HD tuners?  My TV has a built in tuner.

Currently, I can record 2 sat shows and watch another live through my OTA antenna because that is connected directly to the tv.  Will I be able to record to HD OTA shows through the receiver and still watch a live HD channel if I still have it connected directly to the TV as well?

Yes, you will be able to record what I have posted above, plus you will be able to watch an OTA channel on your tv.

Their up coming media server will have 4 tuners.

Are they still doing the promotion? I've been told that customer retention is going to be calling me cuz I complained about Music Choice going bye-bye. I'm thinking of using that as my starting point and trying milk it from there. ;)

I'm not sure if this offer is still out there but you may want to try.  When I purchased my HD TIVO (used the BB coupon), D* was offering a $250 rebate with the activation of a new HD TIVO.  I've heard quite a few were able to get 3-6 months of HBO or Showtime, plus the HD package for free along with this $250 credit.  I do not have HBO or Showtime, but do have the HD package, and was not offered this part of the deal.  I though I heard that D* is giving $199 refunds now, but I may be misinformed.  Depending on which CSR you speak to, if you mention a local cable offer, D* seems to be pretty good about keeping you as a customer.  I used that as leverage and actually (after selling my old D* HD box) came out $50 ahead to swap to the HD TIVO.

The install was Oct. 1.  I love it.  I got the $249 price with the $100 rebate which I'll be sending in soon.  Also got $5 off my package for 6 months and $5 off the HD package for 6 months.  When I asked about other deals that might be out there, the guy at Directv said the user forums, like TivoCommunity are great for info, but he couldn't give me any other deals.

With that said, I got my bill and my old receiver, which was replaced by my old TiVo box was still considered active.  I was also not given the $5 discount for the HD package.  For my troubles, I was offered, without asking, Showtime free for 6 months and the sports package for $1 each month for 6 months.  I didn't ask for any deals, but they were offered and I'm not complaining.  Now, I just have to remember to cancel in 6 months so I'm not charged $23 for these 2 packages.

I haven't had any problems with TiVo and the guide as far as the OTA is concerned.  I know someone asked about that, but it's been fine.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Only one problem, however.  I used to be able to watch 2 shows side by side on my tv (Sony KDF-55SX955), but now that everything is hooked up to the high def connections in the back of the tv, I can't do it.  Anyone else have this problem?  I don't usually watch 2 shows at the same time except on Sunday afternoons!!

Okay...thinking about getting one now but I do have a question.
Did you guys buy the HD Tivo before asking for credits, or did you call Directv first to ask for credits before buying one ?
Let me know cause I think I want to pull the trigger before Thursday (Smallville)

Good luck. Few people are still having success getting the $299 deal.  Once you get the $299 deal. Ask them what other offers are available for signing such long two years commitment.

I kept asking before I pulled the trigger.

You can do what I did, and buy a basic receiver and integrate it into your system. You, ,as I will then be able to use PIP..........
