for those who didn't click over, apparently DirecTV customer retention has been given authorization to start selling HD Tivo's at $299. Most retention operators will also give the $100 MIR on the unit meaning after rebate it is only $199.

So if you are a DirecTV subscriber with a good record, give customer retention a call and get an HD Tivo for $299 out of pocket with a $100 mail-in-rebate.

To me this is a sign that when the NDS HD DVR comes out from DirecTV, it will most likely be given away for free with two year commitment, and that all existing HD Tivo users will also get a free MPEG4 swap out with two year commitment.

I have just had one installed for 150.00 from directv.  I was a customer that left over a year ago, and hated cable and wanted back.  I called the retention dept. and they hooked me up with this deal.  I thought it was a steal.  Now all I need is fox to get up to full power and I will be set.

The deal is too good to past up. I got it for $100 after rebate, credit and free 6 months programming.

It's not going to last forever. CRS is 1-800-824-9081

Both numbers go to the retention dept. But when I inquired, they mentioned the $299 with $100 rebate - nothing about $150 or $100.

Bebop, could you please elaborate on the magic words to say to get the unit for $100?

heh.. I remember back to the gold ol days (last may) when I was almost the only one with the unit and there wasn't a single sign of anyone else getting one.... good to see a number of board users have now jumped on. Welcome to the world of recording HD locals and premiums without having to switch to the evil TWC.  :D

Is there any way for a new customer to get in on this?  One of the main reasons I stay with TWC is the price of an HD-DVR with DirecTV...

Am I correct in noting that a HD TiVo receiver from DirecTV will NOT be able to record local channels in HD?  (I'm in Milwaukee)

Yep, call the # and as they say, "don't steal in slow motion"

Not sure who told you that, but I've been recording HD locals for a lonnnnnng time.

chadl11

So my antenna can be hooked up to the HD receiver (which I don't currently have) and the shows can be recorded in HD?  No one told me I couldn't do this, I just assumed (stupid, huh?) you couldn't hook up the HD receiver to the antenna.

A couple more questions....

1.  Would I have to get a new dish to receive HD programming?  I'm pretty sure I have a multisatellite dish now - I have regular TiVo, so I think I do.
2.  If I had a HD TiVo, would I have to subscribe to DirecTV's HD programming or could I just use it to record locals in HD through my antenna?
3.  Is it worth it to have HD TiVo if the technology is changing soon?

Thanks
