Sound Sync Problem on CBS 58

Around 6:30pm I was watching HDNet on CBS-58 and the sound was *way* out of sync with the video. Cycling power and changing channels on my decoder box didn't help at all.

What causes this? How can it be fixed?

If recycling doesn't take care of it, you'll need to move far enough away from your set that you're at a point where the speed of light and the speed of sound converge, and moving slightly forward or backward will synch them up just fine.

I've had that same problem from time to time, and it's either the station, or the HDNet feed. Seems to be OK on the CBS feed now...

Dear HDTV Friends;

As the old saying goes from the Twilight Zone, do not try and adjust your picture...the lip sync problem with HDNet was being transmitted to you from our facility.  We attempted to correct it, but the to no avail.  We are reviewing if it was being sent to us in not in sync, or if we had an equipment problem on our end.

However, our CBS-HDTV feed in prime time was in correct sync.

I admit it...I laughed.

Being an engineer it also got me thinking... just how far away would I have to sit? Hmmm...Trick question since it's impossible--unless we can somehow decelerate light or accelerate sound. Nice little though experiment nonetheless.

Only one way to decelerate light... make the FCC responsible for allocating the visible light spectrum, make FOX and Sinclair responsible for getting it to the proper speed, and give them a deadline...

P.S. Just trying to live up to my rep as a Wise Guy admin.
