When Analog shuts down in MKE...

Does anyone know if the Milwaukee channels plan to continue to use their new digital frequency or will they transfer their digital signal over to their original (analog) frequency when they stop broadcasting analog?
I currently have a UHF-only antenna and would need to get a dual antenna if they (4, 6 and 12) switched back.  This presents more difficulties as my antenna is currently in the attic and there is barely enough space for it.  And my wife thinks roof-mounts look "white-trash".

When they shut down the analog channels, those channels will be given back to the FCC. They in turn will sell the frequencies for other uses. This is a big money maker for the FCC and is the reason why they are in such a hurry to take back the analog air space.

You can check out this Excel spread sheet from DXFM.com and it lists the stations who elected channels in the first round of channel elections.

Thanks for the link, Foxeng.

Looking at the list, almost all of the Milwaukee stations are requesting their current digital channel as their permanent one.

How will this affect channel branding?  I know that the PSIP info can be programmed to show any channel number (as it does now for a lot of these stations), but is that the long-term plan?  Or will all of the stations have to re-brand with their new channel number?

The FCC has codified into law that what ever the stations analog channel number is, that is what they will be forever known as, no matter what actual channel a station is on.

does this mea that fox 47 of madison will be digital in the UHF range instead of VHF as it is currently 11 digital?

If this doc is accurate then it looks like 47 would reuse its original frequency.  So it appears there's hope I will get that and 15 (19D) sometime in the future, distant as it may be.

Actually it will get to be meaningless after awhile to use a "channel number".  WTMJ-TV, ch. 4 could just ID as "WTMJ for NBC Milwaukee" and not use ch. 4 or ch. 28 as part of the ID.  Same with WITI  "Fox Milwaukee, WITI".  As for mapping They will probably stick with their old analog assignment, I don't think they would want to play with numbers as it will cause havoc.

Only if they have elected to stay on 47.

Try this:

I have done my best to keep it updated.

P.S. My FOX-DT affiliate in Rockford won't sign on until October!
