OTA HDTV in Greenfield

I live in Greenfield and just had DirecTV HD service installed. I had an OTA antenna installed; however, I am unable to get 6-1 or 58-1. It appears from the packaging that the technician installed an antenna classified as yellow. Like many Milwaukee neighborhoods I have some mature tress around, but no large buildings or power lines.

AntennaWeb recommended a red antenna based on my address and possible tree obstructions. The Fox tower is the only 14.4 miles away so is seems I should be able to  get resonable signal.

Signal Strength:
4-1 : 93-100%
6-1: 0-30%
10-1: 93-100%
12-1: 93-100%
58-1: 0-10%

Any recommendations?
Would a different antenna help?
From anyone's experience, will DirecTV help with this?

Both channel 6 and 58 are operating at low power at this time.  FCC rules require them to be at a power level to cover 90%of their analog viewing area by 7/1/05.  So hopefully you will have some relief by then.  However by realigning the antenna more towards 58's tower (more north than Northeast) you may have better luck.

I just moved from 27 and College to 116th and Layton in Greenfield. I am having some issues. First of all, I have resigned myself to the fact that I will NEVER get Fox 6 in HDTV. No matter, I don't watch them anyway.

CBS 58, you are starting to make me mad again. I boycotted you several years ago for a stupid decision you made on a Superbowl in HDTV. Now after I am totally hooked on CBS (I'll never get over Joan of Arcadia,) I have not been able to watch any of your shows in HD during the sweeps month. What gives, I have to be closer as the crow flies to you now than before.

Maybe Summit Place is in my way, which is totally ironic as I do work for those ex-AC folks.

CBS58, if you need to put a repeater on the old Allis Chalmers buildings, let me now, so I can watch/record NCIS in HD tonite.  ;)

Hi Gregg, I have not been around for a while. The move totally wiped out my "A/V" setups. But I do have designs on a future theater room.

You shoud get both 6.1 and 58.1 if you upgrade to Channel Master 4228 (<$40 in Marmax on Rawson Ave.).
I have solid signals in Muskego with antenna in the attic.
I can get all Chicago stations (except CBS) with a proper angle, but I will not get 58.1. So hopefully, I will have Milwaukee & Chicago by July 1 then.  :)

I too have had trouble getting Channels 58 and 6.
I had a signal amp left over from when I first installed my antenna several years ago.I was only interested in an analog signal then, and the amp actually made reception worse.
After reading about the need for an amp in several other forums, I decided to give it a try.
I now get Channels 58.1 and 58.2 (41) loud and clear. Channel 6 is spotty, at best. But at least I now am getting their signal.

The amp I'm using was part of a system that I bought at Home Depot. It is made by Leviton and has an adjustable gain output. I had to put the output near the low end for the best performance.

If you can't wait for them to increase the power signal, give a signal amplifier a try.

I have a channel master on the roof and get all locals including 6 and 58.   I am located at 50th and Cold Spring in Greenfield.   I had Global Sight and Sound install it for me.  Give them a call if you are still having problems.

Good Luck,

Scott

I'm currently right around 27 & College and I get both Fox and CBS. I had to put the antenna on the roof to accomplish that though. It didn't work so well in the garage rafters.  But everything comes in now rock solid. I have a simple RS UHF only yagi style atenna. $20 bucks I think it was. The damn tri-pod cost as much as the antenna.  :D
