My Apologies to CBS-58 - NCAA Tourney

Mags

I just spent an hour talking with a very knowledgeable source at CBS-58.  He invited me to call after viewing my frustration with the lack of HD coverage of the NCAA tourney so far.

He was very nice and helpful.  The bottom line is that our local CBS had an agreement in place to multicast their signal for the local cable companies.  This was in advance of the announcement by CBS that they would be doing as many HD games in the tournament as they ended up showing.

In past years, there would be 1 HD game per day - and as we all know, this year there was as many as 8 HD games a day.  However, CBS did not announce that they were going to do this until after CBS-58 had agreed to provide the multi-cast to TWC.

If they would have known in advance, things may have been different - who knows?

The good news is that CBS-58 will NOT be multicasting on Thursday and Friday of this week - which means we get HD games the rest of the way out!  And for those who get D*, you can still see all the games - and all of them in HD!

What more could you ask for?

Direct communication from the station posted here at MilwaukeeHDTV.org from time to time.  Maybe throw in Dolby Digital 5.1 when it is available from the network, since you are asking.....

How does a D* subscriber get to see all the games -- and all of them in HD?

Thanks,

SK

By buying the March Madness package....and not all of them are in HD.   Plus,  they black out the HD games on D* that our local CBS is showing in SD.  Other than that all of the other games are on D* in  HD that CBS produced in HD.

From this point forward they are all in HD.  No more games broadcast in only SD.  Half of rounds 1 & 2 were HD and half were SD only.  If you were to buy it now, it would be for only 4 games.  Who know, maybe next year all the games will be available in HD.

Like I said in an earlier post......you guys are lucky ! All the past years we had to wait until the Final Four to get a HD game. Think of all the Marquette games that were missed in HD.
This year will be great with both UW schools in the Sweet 16 !!

Matt:

Better yet, think of how many UW Badger tourney games have been missed!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Marquette has only been to the tournament 2 of the last 6 years, with 1 Final Four Appearance.  Contrast that to Wisconsin, who has been there 7 straight years, with 2 Sweet 16's and 1 Final Four!  And they may not be done yet this year!

Marquette has some serious issues with their program.  If it were not for Dwayne Wade (who is an incredible talent), they probably would be 0 for 7 in terms of NCAA births.

The difference between UW and Marquette is huge - look at what Bo Ryan did - he lost a top 5 pick in the draft (Devin Harris), and still took his team to the sweet 16.

Tom Crean lost a top 5 pick (Wade), and can't even get back into the NCAA tournament for the next TWO years.  And I'm betting they won't make it next year either.

It speaks volumes for the job Bruce Pearl has done.  It's funny - Marquette is afraid to play UWM as Marquette feels it has nothing to gain and everything to lose - well now I'm not sure so that UWM should play Marquette - as UWM is the better program and has nothing to gain by playing them.

In the long run, the move to the Big East will help Marquette's program - but in the short run, it will be very painful.  I'm sure Marquette will still play the non-conference creampuffs.  But now conference play will be tough - instead of complaining how difficult it is to win at East Carolina, now they will be getting blown out at Syracuse instead.

Basically, Marquette's program has fallen to mid-major status.  They are no longer a major college program.  Thank God for Dwayne Wade - it would have been quite a long NCAA-less streak without him.

But one player does not make a program.  You need to be able to win BEFORE and AFTER your star player is gone to show you have a program.

I hope Marquette can turn it around - but at this point, they are 3rd in Wisconsin - behind UWM and Wisconsin.  Maybe Marquette could lure Bruce Pearl - now that they are Big East, they'd have something to sell to an up and coming head coach.

5.1 is expensive as you know so I'd rather have full power before 5.1 but there is always the possiblity they'll do both at the same time.

And that relates to HD in what way???????

This would be a more appropriate forum.

Your right - I went off topic...

But then again, so did Matt talking about how many Marquette HD games were missed....

Of course, the answer this year is very easy - ZERO

Uh....I was just making a statement about missing out of local teams in HD games. Off the top of my head I remember that it was Marquette in some tournament games that were broadcst in HD BUT our local CBS decided to multicast all games with NO HD until the Final Four. This year that isn't a problem.

Honestly it could have been any "-insert your favorite team here-",  I just remember that particular round.

Hey man...I am a football fan who appreciates when the local teams in other sports do well. ;)

But I will admit I enjoy college basketball WAY MORE than the joke that is the NBA (my opinion...I know  )

Matt

Mags

I've got Bucks season tickets - and I still agree - the college game is much better

Of course watching the Bucks makes it difficult to enjoy the Pro game (cuz they aren't very good)   :)

I stand corrected.  Hopefully the communication lines will stay open in the future.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything, so please don't take my comments the wrong way.   :)
