Antenna issues

I live in Port Washington.  We've had a Sharp Aquos 30" for some time, mostly using a Hughes HD DirecTV receiver, and love it.  We also have a simple indoor OTA antenna (Zenith I think) which we've used occasionally.  It gets channel 12 and 58 HD stuff pretty well, but 6 sucks.  It'll hold a decent signal for about 45 seconds max, then will freeze up, break up, etc.

We just got a HD DirecTV Tivo for our second HDTV, and I want to get a really good HD OTA antenna for it.  Ideally, I'd like to get an antenna that I can put in the attic and get Milwaukee HD without having to futz with it, because I don't want to have to run into the attic every time I change channels.

Is this possible?  If necessary, I can run the antenna out onto the roof, I do have a handy mounting point (old DirecTV dish mast that's no longer used), but I'd prefer to have it in the attic if I can.

The HD Tivo, incidentally, is very impressive.  We've had a regular Tivo for several years and as my wife says, you'll have to pry it out of our cold, dead hands!

Suggestions on the antenna appreciated!

Obviously a rooftoop antenna is best but in many cases an attic antenna will work fine.  First, enter your address into antennaweb and see where you need to aim the antenna.  Living in Port, you should probably get all channels by simply aiming the antenna just west of due south.  Though, you may need a rotor to fine tune.  Now depending on the orientation of your home and the size of your attic, you may not be able to aim the antenna in the direction you want or may not be able to put it on a rotor since it may hit the rafters when it turns.

If you are interested, last week I received the channelmaster 4288 which is supposed to be one of the best UHF antennas. After I purchased it and before I installed it, I gave in and got TWC (Im not willing to pay for a new D* box AND $11/mo for HD).   So if you are interested, Ill sell it for what I got it for ($60).  Its approx 3'x3' and only 6" wide so it should fit well in most attics.

Cool.  Thanks for the pointers to the antenna info site -- That antenna looks like it should do the trick for me, it'll fit on the south end of my attic, which is a third-floor area with a clear line of sight SSW.

I'll PM you about the antenna.
