I want to thank everyone who responded to my last posting.

I received my new TWC HD DVR last week, and as of today I'm installing my third one. There were major problems with the first two. Hopefully the third time is a charm.

Until they solve that software problem, I'm guessing there will be no difference...

There are more problems than just those dropouts. I'm currently experiencing the third "there may be a problem with your Hard Drive" and I've lost everything I had recorded by the time the CSR had it back up. After two I went in for a new box so either I'm getting bum boxes or ...?

Can't figure out why I don't see more complaints about it.

Well, zoothorn, I've had my hd dvr box since the first day it was available and I'm not posting any complaints because, other than intermittent audio dropouts which have been reported many times on this forum and AVS, I don't have any problems.  And the audio dropouts are not nearly as frequent as they were the first couple months.

When I spoke with the CSR this time he said it was a recognized problem that SA was working on but that it wasn't happening to a lot of people.  I'm just lucky I guess;)

Overall I love the machine, don't get me wrong there. Just couldn't see why I wasn't reading more about a problem I seem to be able to duplicate fairly easily.

Well, I was lucky 'till yesterday, then I got the "hard drive" problem message on my screen.  I've had this 8000HD for a month, having replaced one before that for another problem.  I'm getting to the point where I think I'd be better off building my own PC to do this task.

About the result.  So far so good.  The phone tech had me reboot (unplug for a minute, then boot it back up), and once it came back up it's been  OK, we've watched all the saved shows and it didn't lose any of it's programmed recordings.  I'll take it back tomorrow after I've written down all the shows I've set up to record.

Good luck to all, the problem has NO symptoms.

Well, that didn't take very long, now this one is failing with the same hard drive problem.  Going to have to take it back soon.     :bang:

Too bad I'm hooked on DVR, otherwise I could go back to the "good old days" of watching shows when they were on.  If I weren't a techie, I'd probably be PO'd, but ain't technology grand?

One thing I found out by accident though, is as long as I don't turn the unit off, I don't get the disk drive error.  I'm guessing when one of those clandestine updates gets done, my time'll be up.

Having a lot of dropouts on 504 only, INHD has no problem. You think that it would be the other way.

I have had mine since its release, and other than minor dropouts which just dont bother me, I have loved every second of it. Now, I sure do wish there was a way to archive off it, but oh well.

Cheers,

My first post but I had to comment on this DVR. After going through 3 I am done. The TW in Mayfair told me there were major problems with the hard drive in this unit and they have no immediate plans to get anything else. For now I'm back to the HDTV set top box and looking at DVR alternatives.

I've had mine from day one and never had a hard drive problem. I would guess that it must be newer boxes having this issue as you guys seem to have just gotten your boxes recently. They must have a batch of bad drives. I guess I better hope mine never needs to be replaced with a new box.

I've had the same one since TW started beta testing and no hard drive issues.   I put it in a spot near the television that allowed ventilation in the top front and back.  Putting the unit in an enclosed space can cause premature failure.
