HD Tivo Question

Actually I have a couple of questions for those of you who have HD Tivo's:

1.  Reception.  A week ago, I took a couple of splitters out of my antenna circuit.  I was able to get a solid 55-60 on FOX 6.  Now since Sunday, I can't even pick it up at all.  Same goes for 18-1.  The even stranger thing is that the signal consistently moves between 0 and 40... Not constant at all.  Jumps to 40 and then back to 0.  Is there possibly something wrong with the Tivo, or is this normal at this reception level?  Any ideas why the big drop in reception of Fox 6 a week later?

2.  I've noticed in the last week that my hard drive in the HD Tivo will "chirp" every 10 seconds or so.  It had never done this before.  Is this a sign that I have a problem with the hard disk?  It seems to be still working, as far as recording goes.
