I have a new Sony XBR2 with built in OTA a/d tuner. CBS digital on channel 1 comes in great, but only when I manually enter the channel number. My tunner recognizes it as an available signal and guide functions seem correct. I varified that the display unit at Flanner's reacts the same way. Is there something different about the PSIP data being transmitted for digital channel 1, or do the Sony tunners have an issue finding channel 1?

Jim Hall @ CBS should have the answer to this question, maybe he'll chime in.

Dear TS Bruce;

Our PSIP set-up is as follows for DTV;

1.0 CBS-58 Standard NTSC or analog
1.1 CBS-58 HDTV 1080i (both true HDTV and upconverted HD.
1.2 WMLW – SDTV
1.3 Telemundo 63 – SDTV

You should be able to do a auto search with your STB and scan the entire band and your STB should pick up our PSIP table and tune accordingly for you.  Let me know if you need further assistance or clarification.

Thanks for your reply.  I should clarify that my set has a built in tuner and does not correctly find digital 46 on channel 1.  It recognizes that there is something on channel 1, but will not find it unless you manually enter the number 1.  When it is sent to channel 1 manually I can surf between 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 when present. All other analog and digital channels recall and can be surfed too normally.  I would like to know why it reacts differently to your signal?

Dear Bruce;

The answer your question as to why your STB tuner acts differently to our PSIP data and channel mapping is due to a lower version on firmware your STB is using.  In our PSIP data tables we can tell STB's for DTV how to tune to both our analog and digital channels through a virtual mapping feature.  However, I believe that some SONY STB's will not convert the PSIP data for our analog channel mapping of 58 to channel 1.

Again in review, for DTV tuning, Channel 1 is our analog channel (not our DTV or HDTV signal.

Channel 1.0 is NTSC CBS-58
Channel 1.1 is HD CBS channel
Channel 1.2 is SD WMLW TV-41
Channel 1.3 is SD Telemundo 63

I am not sure from your posting that if you tune to channel 1, that you in fact receive anything.  I would suspect that you receive nothing or it jumps to 1.1.  We know that the Sony tuners that we have 1.0 will not map our NTSC channel 58.  However, RCA's and others will.

Again we believe this to be a lower firmware version within the SONY tuner.

Sincerely;

Jim Hall

I have the RCA DTC-100 built-in. I've had this problem at rare times after a re-scan. When PSIP data was messed up at CBS-58, I had did a rescan and it was no longer on my list. This has happened with PBS 10-1 thru 5 sometimes. All I have to do when this rare event happens is punch in the channel manually once or I have to go into the antenna tuning page and choose it from there once. It will then start working from then on. It's a weird quirk, but one that I don't have to deal with that often.
