Are the monster cables ($70-$100) for HD worth the price compared to the cables supplied by TWC.

I do not use them unless I forgot to spec something better than them when putting together a HT setup. Then their cheap cables work until I get something a little better shielded from monster or similar (but less pricey).
I had the chance recently, since the setup was just being done to first use the TWC component video cables watching a HD channel then with the better, thicker cables, and all of us there noted a difference in improved picture quality with the better video cables.
Think of it as a hose, the thicker it is, the more goes through it and less chance of splitting and compromising the flow.
IMO, if you are going to spend the money for an HD set and all, why use crappy cabling? What is the point?
It doesn't have to monster cable, just better than the TWC cables, that's all.  :)

That should work, too.:)

Monster brand is just marketing hype.  There are much cheaper cables out ther for a whole lot less.

HD is DIGITAL (DT)!  It either works, or it don't!  The cable CAN NOT make a difference other than making it work or not.  The signal is not analog with peaks and valleys.  It's just ones and zeros with bit error checking.

If you are talking about using RGB cables instead of DVI from a reciever to your TV, that may make a difference.  But I still say there are cheaper cables that work as well.

What I was trying to convey is that Monster "type" cables, if not the original brand, hold up better in my experience, digital or not.

Better shielding at the connection points with better cables is what you get with something better than the cheap cables for better throughput, digital or not.

I do not have stock in Monster Cable nor get any compensation from them, but I do know a good set of cables and the TWC component ones are okay if you are need of something to hook up your digital box to the HD set, but not the best choice.:D

When I ws setting up my system, I went to radio shack to get cables.  I wanted  to get "monster-like" cables.  I needed 2 sets of 12 foot component video cables.  They had RadioShack brand 12 foot component video "Gold Cables" for $50.  They also had RadioShack brand 12 foot A/V "Gold Cables" for $18.  They appearred identical except for the different colored ends.  I got the A/V cables and I am using them as component video cables and they seem to work just fine.

This is what I was trying to convey.

If you don't like Monster, fine, Radio Shack (or equivalent) should work well also. The "Gold Cables" refers to the better connections on both ends and thus less loss of signal.

I have a few of these connected, too, as well....thanks for sharing!;)
