It's a dam shame that channel 58 and WISN radio don't have the kahonas to stand up against a small group of very vocal people.

Yes, what Belling said was wrong, and yes his apologies all week were not sincere. But since that time, he has sincerely apologized and that should be the end of it. Move on.

This has much less to do with his comments and much more to do with a witch hunt by all the people that do not like Belling. They have seen an opportunity and they are all pilling on.

This guy deserves what he gets. I actually heard him do a bogus Amber Alert some time ago. It would be nice to hear some actual fresh ideas in Milwaukee without satellite and the internet radiocasts. Good to see at least mediocre ESPN sports radio is now available on 1510.

What? A group of liberals complaining about a conservative radio talk show host? Unheard of!

Oh give me a friggin break. It was total sarcasm regarding the whereabouts of a newly elected, yet completely invisible mayor Tom Barrett. I actually thought it was rather funny.
Hey, some guy held up a Amber Alert sign at a Packer game sometime ago...maybe you should complain about a missing Packer defense...

Ya know I shudder to think about the wussyness that this country is coming to.....sounds like my 8 and 10 year old.."Dad, Jesse said this about me"...."Dad, Justin hit me"..."Dad, Jesse is teasing me"". I wish...I WISH people would grow some thicker skin and get over crappola like this. Belling was an idiot to say it, and even bigger idiot to act the way he did afterward BUT COME ON...if this is the biggest problem the Latino community has to deal with then I think they need a SERIOUS reality check.

Ya know whats ironic about the whole situation ? I saw on the news where a few Belling supporters where quietly holding signs stating 'Those without sin cast the first stone' and some big mouth Hispanic guy starts screaming about how the Belling supporters are "clansmen". Kinda funny how they want ethnic sensitivity, but are the first to use slurs themselves.

This isn't about being PC, this about hatred. You figure out who the true haters are....

It just goes to show that its worse to hurt someone's feelings than it is to commit murder.

I thought it was classless. There are some stunts you don't pull and that is one of them.

You hit the nail on the head Drummerboy.  God forbid anyone gets their feelings hurt now a days.  Maybe these people protesting Belling should take a step into reality.  For example I got chewed-out and called some not so nice things and was asked if I was a f***ing idiot just yesterday by the VP of my company for something that I am not even responsible for, I was the closest target when the s*** hit the fan.  Did I cry or complain to HR, no I sat and took it for 20 minutes and told him I would investigate how this problem happened and would help to resolve it.  This morning I reported what I had found and a resolution is in the works.  I got an ok and let me know when this is fixed from the VP, I did not get an apology for the way he treated me yesterday (I think I need some counseling)...

Get tough people because life is not fair, but unfortunately this is not what is taught in this PC society.

I love the comment someone left at the Brew City Radio board yesterday:

"Life is Hard... grab a helmut!"

BTW... we've had a few threads here in the past few days that, because of their political and ideologal nature could have gotten really ugly.  Thanks for keeping it passionate AND civil!

How ugly? Go see http://www.brewcityradio.com and browse through the Belling threads... YIKES!

Lack of civility at BCR?! Really??!!

As I said there, and will say here, we do NOT know what internal guidelines WISN or CC provide their on-air staff. Mark may have pushed the envelope into an area prohibited by those internal guidelines, and as such is subject to discipline by them.

Likewise, commercial radio and/or TV is still commercial. If advertisers start pulling their ads and they are not replaced by others, the station has to look after its revenue stream. It's not politics; it's business.

As others have said, Belling stepped over a line and then made things worse by issuing an arrogant, insincere apology.

Others raised legitimate objections, and some have now gone too far in the other direction.

Mark then issues what appears to be a sincere apology, but his credibility has been compromised.

Those objecting take things a step further.

Then those on the far right react, etc., etc.

It sounds like Mark will take his lumps, and will return to the air at some time in the future.  (My guess is that WISN is waiting for things to calm down, Belling is serving a suspension for violating internal guidelines, or both.)

Hmm, isn't this station group the one who took the Dixie Chicks off the air when they said something some folks didn't like?  Anyone remember how Belling felt about that?

Scott

I think WISN may have gone removed the Dixie Chicks because those who listen to the station didn't care much for them after they went out after the President.

But I think the problem here is that those people who are pushing for Belling to get fired are those who do not ever listen to his show.  They just don't like his politics.

If the people really pushing this Belling thing want to go after the sponsors of his show, that's great.  But I think that Belling should have the ability to run his show, as long as he has the advertisers to support it.

Contrast that with the revelations this week that you, I and everyone else in the State of Wisconsin was paying Michael McGee about $275,000 to sponsor his show with taxpayer dollars.

I was referring more to ClearChannel as a whole, not WISN in particular.  The situation isn't much different that I can see.  A fairly small but vocal group of irate folk is attempting to shut down access to the airwaves for a viewpoint they don't support and they've managed to whip up frothers from both sides of the argument as usual.  Me, I listen to Belling and the Dixie Chicks (Hell, I'll listen to any group with a strong female vocal and a fiddle), and I don't agree with either of them on everything so I'm glad they're both out there saying things and keeping the discourse alive.
