Last night I picked up an SA 8000 HD box from TWC.  I've got it connected to a Selico front projector.  I get a picture in SD mode, but no picture (no signal) in HD mode.  Spent an hour on phone with TWC svc rep and several hours "trying everything" without success.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

The only output that works in HD mode is component. DVI is always disabled, and S-video only works in SD mode.

How is this connected? Is it connected with component (red green blue, 3 connectors for only video), or are you trying to use S-video, DVI, or standard composite (yellow, red, white, 1 for video, 2 for stereo sound)?

Unreal -

I've got RGB/component for HD and S-video cable for SD.  I replaced a non-DVR SA HD box that worked fine.  I'm taking off now for a replacement 8000 HD.  I'll let you know if that does the trick.  Thanks.

Ah alright. Just remember the CH+ VOL- trick that switches the box between HD and SD modes. However with the last few versions of firmware, it should default to HD mode.

I picked up a replacement SA 8000 HD.  No luck. for whatever reason my Seleco HT 250 projector doesn't recognize the box output....but no problem with my old (2 or 3 years) SA box.  ???
Shoot.  JP:confused:

I can't think of ANY reason it wouldn't work if that input is in fact component. Very strange.

What input formats does your projector handle?  I think the original box you had only put out 1080i.  It is possible the current output for the new one is different.  Check how to change component output formats of the DVR via the front panel on page 8 here.
The 8000 will not put out a signal on Y/C in the HD (default) mode, only the component outut is active on reboot.

Hi John

Check out the lumagen link, All outputs and inputs are covered. It will even put out 1080P to your projector if it can handle it. There is a pdf you can download .

Taking another look at your problem, your projector may not support a Y, Pr, Pb input (which is the output format of the 8000).
According to this web page, your projector may only have component inputs, including RGBHV via Dsub and RGBS/YCrCbS via 4xRCA connectors.  The old SA set top did have an option for RGBS out, which is what you may have been running before your returned it.  If so, you may need a format converter .

Sorry   I thought you had a CRT projector, when your ready to do 1080p we will talk.

RODDMOD and mhz 40 -

I appreciate all the technical info you've provided, but I must admit it's a bit over my head.

When the 2nd SA 8000 HD didn't work with my projector I picked up a non-DVR SA 3100 HD box which works just fine.  Oh well.

Thanks.
