CBS on 1-1? Samsung channels start at 2?

I picked up a $60 antenna from Radio Shack.  The Radio Shack VU-90XR VHF/UHF/FM, 80" Boom Length, 32 Element OTA Antenna (with a 60 mile range).  They do have others with a longer range but is that what I need?  Will simply higher be the solution?  I would prefer to stay in the garage attic to save a bunch of hassle.

As I manually adjust the antenna angle I do have someone wathcing to see of a picture comes in or not.  The Sammy 351 does not allow you to have the signal strength screen on for a long time.  It will go back to a default screen reading "No Picture".  Plus if I get a signal strength with CBS I still am not getting a picture or sound?

I hope the Sony SAT HD300 is easier to use in regards to signal strengths BUT it will not improve reception.  I need to figure this antenna thing out first.
