WKOW-DT 26 Madison--- ABC

This question is to those that can pick up this station. Directed mostly to those with the RCA DTC-100 STB. As far as I know, this box only handles 480p/1080i. Most STBs are only 480p/1080i, with a few exceptions. I've heard that the DCT-100 is supposed to upconvert to 1080i since it isn't 720p native. Maybe it's my set (Proscan PS38000 or RCA F38310) that can only handle 480p/1080i. I don't know. Does anybody know?!? I wanted to know how ABC's 720p HD programs look? Any problems?!?! How does it compare to 1080i in your eyes opinion?!? Since WISN 12 ain't up and running, I thought those who can get WKOW 26 in Madison can give me a heads up on what to expect from 720p. I hope my set won't have any problems. Just wondering!

Well, yes my Mits does upconvert to 1080i, and I do get WKOW pretty well.  Many weeks back they had the Indiana Jones movies on-- WOW! and 5.1!

As far as how it looked (looks), I'd say as good as anything I've seen to date. Technically, shouldn't it be a bit better since you're getting 720 lines all at once vs 540 per refresh for interlaced?  Either way though, since it's being upconverted maybe that's a moot point.

With the exception of what FOX wants to do 480p (yeah, umm, what's the point) it's sometimes hard to watch normal NTSC now, but it does make you appreciate those HD shows you can watch now.

Depending on your location, unless your about Moreland Rd, it's probably going to be difficult to receive much further without a lot of experimenting (and a little luck).  Weather will impact reception also, so keep that in mind.

Let me know if you want additional info about what worked for me, and I have a RS VU-190 (BIG) that I may be persuaded to sell....

WKOW is a real powerhouse from Madison.  Out here in Hartland it comes in strength of 88 or better. 720P looks just as good to me as 1080 and ABC has a lot of HD. One goofy thing that WKOW does is s-t-r-e-t-c-h- the 4x3 material resulting in everyone looking like two ton Tessie. I wish they'd stop that. Otherwise a good station.  By the way, they have a 15 min HD presentation they show at sign on which is impressive, with views from around Madison and Wisconsin.
