Channel 504 problems...

Last night, when all my other HD channels were working, Channel 504 decided it wanted to pixelate, drop out, and had audio screw ups.:(

I finally, in vain, had the DVR record analogue channel 4 to at least capture LAX when the 5.1 dropped to lose the center channel as lip-sync-ing to Heather Locklear was a bit too much.

Now I don't know why it was either NBC or WTMJ-HD sending bad signal to TWC, as it couldn't have been both my boxes as I tried to use the other one. As for signal, I just had TWC check my lines, due a Digital Phone installation, which seems to work great. :)

Later on the Tonight Show had more pixelation, drop outs, but not on the analogue side channel 4, then halfway through his monologue, Channel 4 switched into a commercial...bad switching, guys.

So what was wrong? HD Discovery worked, HDNET worked fine as did many other channels on both sets and boxes as I recorded this NBC mess and went to the other tuner to check things out.

ANYONE else have this problem that wasn't watching sports???

I was watching the Packer game on 512, but I recorded LAX on 504 and watched it this morning. There were no problems with the signal.

BTW, that show sucked. I bet it doesn't make it long. Take bad acting, bad writing and bad directing and put them all into one show.

Thanks summerfun...the show was okay...just wanted to see Heather.;)

I seems odd that only that channel was having problems and to have the cable guy tell me everything was good including the RR.
Now I will have to do a service call for one channel or not have it fixed at all...but what with the bad switching during the Tonight Show? Does anyone at TMJ have to fire the switcher person?

Yea, she was the only good point. Just a little hard to swallow when she ran her car under the wheels of a moving 747 to stop them from taking off on the run way. Then got out and yelled at the pilots. It was so bad, I had to turn it off.

Heather's car would not have stopped the plane due to mass and force...stupid...you are right on target here....but...

Some other forums around the country had the same NBC sound problem last night with NBC-HD and they also had the HD DVRs we have in many cases. So it could have been local station and the network, which just started to do 5.1 sound.

If it was the other HD channels, I would understand, but no.

I think NBC just cannot handle its 5.1 sound yet or the station here needs some help.
Maybe the folks at our ABC station could send an engineer over as I never had 5.1 sound or picture problems from them, ever.:)

I also have TWC.  I recently got the hd dvr and i am experiencing the pixelating and sound drops and short pauses too.  Mine happens on most of the hd channels.  It could be cbs, nbc, inhd, doesn't matter.  I never had the old hd box because i waited to get my hdtv until the dvr was out.  I have had serivce come out twice.  They say the hd data is much more sensitive and maybe something is disturbing the data stream.  They put an amplifier on too because of weak signal.  Now they want to put new cable in my yard which is 230 feet.  I am not too hip on that yet.  Waiting to see what happens for a bit.

If they are wanting to replace 200 plus feet of cable, it must mean they are getting much better readings at the main port than in your home.   I'd let them do it, I have a feeling that it will cure most of your problems.  (Of course that is if my assumptions are correct and they do notice that there is too much drop in that line.)

The amplifier they installed is more of a patch than a fix, if the signal level is low it can be corrupted and the amplifier will only amplify the corruptions.

Let us all know how it turns out and welcome to the forums!

Both techs i had come out from twc said that the line in the ground seemed fine.  By their calculations of what i got at the post in the back and what i have on the side of the house is correct.  But i will let you know what happens
