Just thought I'd share an email I received from Mike Nipps at WLUK in Green Bay.  Good news from the local station. Hopefully the Fox network will send HD to them!

Email:

As of yesterday we began passing all HD programming from Fox.  Some of
their prime time programming is being upconverted and is still in a 4x3
format, but with 5.1 audio.  But most of the Fox football games will be
in true HD and we will pass those through our studio without any issues.

Besides WLUK ready to transmit HD there has been a couple of other changes coming from the Green Bay stations this summer.  WGBA NBC 26 has increased their power and have started transmitting HD.  WACY UPN 32 has also increased their power and I believe they are capapble of broadcasting HD, at this time though I haven't seen anything in HD

Here is what I am recieving in Fond du Lac with a Radio Shack uhf antenna mounted on a two story house roof

WBAY ABC  2(23)    93
WFRV CBS  5(56)    95
WLUK FOX 11(51)   71
WGBA NBC 26(41)   92
WACY UPN 32(59)   90
WPNE PBS 38(42)   95

Green Bay reception is much better then Milwaukee.   Only Milwaukee stations that are ok to recieve are 4,12,36,55

I like those UHF antennas from Radio Shack. I have one in my attic that I left there for backup in case something happens to the Winegard on the tower. For $23.99, it works pretty well and has good range.  I can get all stations in Milw and Green Bay except for WITI and WACY. Of course I can get only one market at a time depending on the direction I point it. Not too bad for a cheap attic antenna with no amp.

Where the heck is my Madison Fox HD feed.  GB and Appleton markets get it before I do.  RIDICULOUS:guns: :bang:

The 6 of 7 Green Bay TV Stations have spent their HD monies.
The 7th Network (WB chan 21) is 80% Power Std Def.

A Green Bay/Appleton HD current OTA summary:

ABC Chan 23 Is Full Power HD with Sub Chan & DD 2.0
CBS Chan 56 Is Full Power HD, no  Sub Chan & DD 5.1
FOX Chan 51 Is Full Power HD, no  Sub Chan & DD 5.1
NBC Chan 41 Is Full Power HD, no  Sub Chan & DD 5.1
PBS Chan 42 Is Full Power HD with Sub Chan & DD 5.1
UPN Chan 59 Is Full Power HD, no  Sub Chan & DD 2.0
WB Chan 21 Is 80% Power SD, no Sub Chan & DD 2.0

HD Capability implies HD pass thru and
DD (Dolby Digital) implies DD audio pass thru

And yes WLUK-HD FOX has shown 4 or 5 Programs
in 720p HD including DD 5.1 in the past 5 days.

UPN has yet to show/pass a 16:9 HD Program to date,
however transmits an upconverted HD signal.

Apearently, WB Network will have HD Programs this Fall,
but has no Chan 21 HD Pass thru capability until Spring 05..

CBS Chan 56 is using DD 5.1 for both Local & Pass thru
audio..   The Local 5.1 is really upconverted 2.0 Audio
in the Right & Left Channels only...  But converts
seamlessly if DD 5.1 is available from CBS Network.

And Time Warner carries these OTA Channels in Digital:
             ABC HD = TW 703
             ABC SD = TW 702
             CBS HD = TW 706
             NBC HD = TW 707
             PBS HD = TW 708

FOX HD = TW NA  except in Analog
             UPN HD = TW NA  "          "   "
               WB SD = TW NA  "          "  "
              PBS SD = TW NA  "          "  "

Even though the 720p link is up and stations are airing it, according to a guy who works at the network in LA on AVSFourm, there hasn't been any HD sent down the HD link yet, just 480 upconverted to 720p. The first true 720p will be Sunday for the football games.

I am guessing by the following link, that TWC GB will not be carrying the Packers in HD this year.

http://www.wluk.com/faq/

Very disappointing, I cannot get a straight answer out of TWC about this, just the line "in negotiations".

Den Mayer

TWC Green Bay/ Appleton 'may not carry' all

16 Packer NFL games in HD 'at this time'....

TWC should carry 3 Monday Nite ABC HD Packer games,

and 1 CBS HD Sunday game IF CBS uses a HD studio truck.

TWC has a chance to carry 1 Sunday night ESPN-HD

Packer game IF Disney & TW have an agreement on

 a group of 'Programming issues'.

And for the OTA Packer fans FOX HD, ABC HD, &

CBS HD? can cover 14 or 15 of 16 Packer games....   IF OTA

local HD can not deliver the one ESPN-HD Pack game,  then

TWC has a chance left to 'help us HD Packer fans out'.

FOX HD OTA should give us 11 Packer HD games and

TWC could give us another 16 ESPN-HD Sunday Nite

NFL games... of which One is a Packer HD game......

And those satellite Dish people mite have us all beat

in HD NFL game capability....   by a tad...

Let's see just how many of the 6 planned FOX HD trucks

are delivered and In Action this Sunday....

I have a question for foxeng, or anyone else for that matter.  Does anyone know if WXMI FOX 17 out of GrandRapids is HD?  I checked their web site and didn't find anything HD related.
Here it is 6:30PM on a Friday night,  WITI  6-1 is cutting in and out and no tweeking of the antenna helps.  But low and behold WXMI comes in ROCK solid.  I'm gonna try Greenbay again and see if I can get their FOX channel and Chicago also.   This Devil has to have a backup plan, because it sure doesn't  look like WITI is gonna light any more candles on that stick of theirs by Sunday.

The list on AVSForum that is tracking the readiness of FOX affiliates is showing WXMI as ready to go for HD.

Thank You

The Skip must be rolling just right at times.  Sometimes I can get the Greenbay and Chicago Digitals and then I cannot.  I have hills to the north, south and west of me.  I do however have a clear shot to the east, which explains GrandRapids comming in more often than not.:)
