gparris,

It is a very simple math (basic arithmetics skills required).
Supposed someone wants only local channels in HD. What proveder can offer it with minimal price?

Answer: standalone HD receiver - $0.00
              TWC - price is > $0.00.

All these stuff, like they are free with something else means that they are not free. Period.

:)

Look, AndrewP:

I can do math,too...if it bothers you so much I hope you ARE getting WB18 from OTA.:)

As for SBG, I want a deal worked out with TWC so I CAN get Channel 518 in time to get the shows I enjoy digitally, just like I do with the other HD locals, without the "payoffs" from SBG eventually ending up on my TWC billings.:D

You made your point that you can do math.

Thank you!

Peace...

I can only wish you will get it soon.
I wanted to drop Dish Network and go back to TWC , because I could not get Fox6.
I dropped it for Voom and I am not dissappoineted: Voom OTA antenna + Voom receiver delivered Fox6 just in time for the new football season.
Voom is great, if someone will get through installation problems.

Any update on HD-WB on TW?  I am getting my new HDTV soon, and I'll be unhappy if I can't watch Smallville in HD... :(

Your best bet

but seriously, for around $100 on ebay and an indoor antenna you will be able to get all local channels digitally and won't ever have to worry about TWC carriage issues again. Worse comes to worse, when TWC adds WB18 just throw the box on an SD TV...

you cable guys have to remember... OTA boxes aren't $500 anymore.. if you really want smallville this fall (or any WB), grab a tuner off of ebay and a zenith silver sensor antenna and get your OTA for free.

Thanks to TWC, for not working with the SBG thus NOT getting WB18-HD on the cable system as Channel 518!

Now that the new WB season has begun, one of your corporate cousins, the WB network, is not available on cable in HD because you want to fight and your customers lose.:(

The real reason why you have subscribers for cable is reason why cable started to begin with:
So TV set owners could get TV reception, or better reception, in case you forgot the "bottom line". That includes HD channels!

If subscribers start placing antennas outside of their residences or on top of their HDTV sets to get the HD signal, they may wonder why they have subscribed to cable at all!

So quit the "bickering" with Sinclair and remember the subscriber pays your bills and keeps your people hired and get the HD in the WB done!

TWC: Thanks for nothing!:guitar:

I should be able to use my unencrypted QAM tuner to pull in HD channels from my cable modem line, but I can't because they are encrypted.
Auto scan your QAM tuner again... I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

borghe

you're kidding.. TWC finally unencrypted their HD locals???????

hmm.. might have to split the cable modem into the Hughes box and see if I can pick them up.

Let us know what happens as I have a few friends and neighbours with RR (thus cable connections) and HD monitors who would enjoy basic cable without the box to get those 5 HD locals (WB and UPN excluded, of course, thanks SBG).:)

Digital video signals are normally trapped out for RR only subs...

gparris

That is what I was trying to say, that they have RR and basic cable and if they have a QAM tuner in them, they can receive the basic 5 HD locals since (around me directly) OTA integrated doesn't work so good. That is why OTA WB HD is a no-go.
Checking around the TWC system, every Sinclair station shafts the TWC subscriber with no HD locals, so Milwaukeeland is not alone, just the WB being part of TWC indirectly is soft of weird not getting the HD locals off TWC cable, only the analogue ones.

Most HDTV integrated sets with digital tuners have QAM tuners in them also so this would be good deal for them. Then if they so desire for more HD, the HD package with box (unless cablecard equipped), will be an incentive. :)
Once you have HD, you don't go back!;)

On the matter of trapping for the RR subscribers-only:
Thanks for trapping the RR subs, why should they get free cable when we subscribers of both internet and cable have to pay for it?:D

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Thanks for the great information everybody.

A little background:
I subscribe to the standard package (analog 2-72 or so) and have RoadRunner.  I live in downtown Milwaukee.

I got my 34XBR960 delivered yesterday.  Autoscanned and got 230 digital, around 30 of which were unscrambled.  The unscrambled mostly consisted of various TWC preview channels and PBS stations, but I did get the 5 HD locals (NBC, CBS, FOX, MPTV, and ABC).  Great!

I wish I had Discovery HD, TNT HD, the two iNHDs and the two HDNET channels but oh well.  I'm just not sure that it's worth the extra $57 for six more HD channels.  Oh yeah, add ESPNHD to the list.

Anyways, I'm loving the HD content, (what little there is of it).  Thanks again for all of the great info.

You might be a candidate for SAT as their shortfall is the local channels and you seem to have them already.

gparris

If you can do away with the cable altogether, great...analogue on TWC sucks.:D
But the cost of Total Choice runs about $40-$43 and $11 for the HD package without HBO and SHO HD channels as you have to subscribe to them to get the HD ones, just like cable.:D
That makes it about $51-54 and you get some HD Directv-style and HD OTA for free...including WB HD!;)

Has there been any progress at all in getting HD-WB on TW in Milwaukee?

Andrew Grall

Also, if I get a TV with a built-in HD Tuner, would I likely be able to pick up the HD-WB signal with an indoor antenna?  Right now I live in the north side of Milwaukee, but I'll be moving to Oak Creek in a couple of months.
