UPN & WB in HD?

Since in do not receive OTR, only TWC I have a question.

The front of this forum shows that the WB and UPN channels in Milwaukee are currently broadcasting in digital.

I only get the analog version on TWC. I know WB and UPN are not producing much, if any HD programming, but I was wondering what the local affiliates were broadcasting.

Are they just digital 480i/p, or HD 720p/1080i?, What is the plan to move to HD if not already?

Fox 6 was only 480p, but was in the TWC HD lineup. Now they are 720p. Why would these two not be in the HD line up if this is their digital broadcast?

At this point both 18 and 24 do have digital signals on the air however they are not really transmitting HD.  Channel 18.1 is 480i simulcast of channel 18.  Channel 18.2 is a HD Test Pattern.  Channel 24.1 is 480i simulcast of channel 24 and Channel 24.2 is simulcast of channel 18.

I wouldn't hold my breath for HD programming from them, as a matter of fact I would be suprised if they get things rolling by September...however it would be nice as I do watch Enterprise and would enjoy it in HD>

Actually this may change... With Sinclair's big HD infrastructure purchase and their seemingly new support of 8VSB and HD transmissions, it seems Sinclair-owned HD affiliates may start changing their stances.. I won't even attempt to offer a guess, but really with that kind of purchase it is only a matter of time... at least one would think.

Enterprise is about the only show I watch on those networks, but I sure would like to see it in HD when it returns this fall.

I still am curious why they are not on the TWC HD line up (ch 500 series) if they are simulcasting on 18.1 and 24.1 in digital.

They ran Fox 6 digital simulcast in the HD line up long before it went to 720p. The PQ was always better than the analog version. I would think it would be the same for 18 and 24. All my digital channels (above 99) look better than my analog channels (3-99).

Even though it my not be HD, if it is better, I would still like to have it available.

Anything would be better than analogue 18 and 24 on TWC.

Now I am watching reruns some of these WB shows on TNT-HD :
Charmed, Angel and so on...what a difference, even if these are upconverted to 1080i on TNT-HD, as compared to the almost painful versions previously broadcast on analogue TWC 18. Ouch!  Its now like watching them almost for the first time.

TWC carries FOX in digital 480p programmes (now 720p in transmission-only) and switching from analogue channel 6 to 506 (digital) makes quite a difference.  Since we still don't have the HD DVR from TWC available, I would have to stop everything to watch an episode of "24" in digital rather than painfully watch in on the DVR later recording from FOX 6's analogue channel on TWC.

Maybe TWC is just waiting for HD-anything or a better digital signal from these Sinclair stations or in negotiations for this to happen on their system.

Checking around at other TWC locations in the country, HD can be found for WB on their systems for HD channels, just not a lot of them. It is a regional and local thing so far...but not impossible.;)

Star Trek Enterprise in HD on 24 will probably occur next year in its reruns if we are lucky in Milwaukee to get it in HD at all,IMO:
The show is rescheduled to Fridays for the fall season instead of Wednesdays, FYI.

WITI ran different programming (widescreen). WVTV and WCGV's programming is identical.. There is no reason as it would be the exact same content as on the analog channels. WITI wasn't the exact same content.

Agreed, but in addition to the widescreen, the digital broadcast had a much better PQ. It would be nice to watch 18 and 24 in digtial if the PQ was better even if in 4:3.

Hopefully this will mean less interuption by those Bucks.  Friday night is not a good night though either.  Since Time Warner released the HD DVR's last March I won't have any problems catching it.  Wait a second...nevermind.
