it looks interesting.. it isn't staged it seems like.. most people really don't look like they are completely enjoying themselves.. kind of like they thought it would be cool and it is turning out to be more work than they bargained for.

the premise is that they are a new world colony from the 1600's and have to survive like one.. with indentured servants, sponsors (i.e. companies paying for people to come over here to send goods back to the old world), and all of the hassles of living back then. it is really well done.

the quality of the video is gorgeous.. apparently it is SD widescreen but I didn't believe it until I noticed in the guide that HDTV wasn't listed...

anyway, they have show four episodes so far, but you can catch repeats on 36-1 on Friday and Saturday of all four (first two on friday repeated twice, first two on saturday repeated twice).

and yet another round of applause for MPTV for making it possible to catch this show even though I missed its original broadcast, in ED no less.. Time to set a season pass I guess..

denno

so not everything on 36-1 is HD?

borghe

channel 36 plays everything unaltered from PBS.

That being said, not everything from PBS is HD. They also have some 480p widescreen content. I believe for example Nature or Nova (one of them) is 480p widescreen.

But still, everything 36 plays is either HDTV or EDTV. I would say probably 85% of it is HDTV and the remaining 15% is EDTV. The guide seems to be correct.. zap2it doesn't list HDTV but TitanTV does and so does the Tivo guide.. the vast majority of the channel is HDTV.

Halfway through Colonial House last night (8 PM) 36-1 switched away.  I had to finish watching on 10 analog :guns:   I love this real version of a reality show.  I also loved I think it was called Frontier something or other which was made in Canada.  Hopefully next week 36-1 won't switch away and make me watch analog again.

what do you mean switched away?

StarvingForHDTV

They switched to showing another program instead of showing the last half of the show.  Each episode is two hours long, and has a break at the one hour point.  After the break I had to watch the second half on 10 analog.

umm.. OTA or cable?? 36-1 or analog 36?

The only reason I ask is because that was the episode I came in on and I saw the beginning of the second part just fine.. weird....

Tuesday May 18th 36-1 OTA 8PM

borghe

I am assuming you mean the 9pm one as there was no episode on at 8pm on 36-1..

as for the second part, I didn't watch the first part from 9pm-10pm, but I did watch some of 10pm-11pm and it was fine for the 10-15 minutes that I watched it....

StarvingForHDTV

That's the problem Borghe, that there was no episode at 8PM.  That should have been the second half of the show that started at 7PM.

You watched a re-run.

We'll see what happens tonight.
