Anyone have this? I can get it for $228 shipped, and was curious if it was a killer player.

gparris

Yes, buy it, NOW! :)

I have Faroudja-deinterlacer players in my home theater and won't part with them until HD DVD is available and then I will still think about it.
This DVD-910 from Denon is excellent. Crutchfield is asking for it for $300 and it at the price you are getting it for, buy IT!
The unit has a fast shifting layer device that allows for a smoother transfer from layers of a dual-layer DVD, which is pretty common nowadays.
Translation: you probably won't notice the transfer from one layer of the disc to the other layer like in other players, that "sudden stop" of the picture when it freezes as the laser finds the second layer of information from the DVD to allow more play time. Older DVDs had you either go to another disc or flip it over like the old  Laserdiscs.  :(  That is why the dual layers were created.
So you got a great price, extra-clear edge-smoothing Faroudja processing and a fast-transfer layer processing DVD player at a price that can't be beat!  BUY it!!!:)

Here is a link to the highly regarded Secret of Home Theater and High Fidelity DVD player shootout. Search around and you will get quite a education in DVD players.
The 910 scored a 90% which is very good.

The score should be lower- it FAILED the blacker than black.

Faroudja processing and the buffer built in for DVD layer change make all the difference in actual use.

The price you are getting it for is almost a giveaway.
If I didn't have similar player(s) I would buy it myself...;)

Which raises the question: are you buying it, anyway and if not,
which store are you buying it from (or website) so I can pass on such a great deal to others more appreciative of its features?

Paul, is this a refurb/gradeB ?

If so, your price is actually a little high. There's a factory authorized reseller on fleabay shipping these for less than $215.

If this is a new unit, check this out - taken directly from Denon's website:

WARNING TO VALUED CONSUMERS:
The warranty on DENON Electronics products is NOT VALID if the products have been purchased from an unauthorized dealer/on-line E-tailer or if the original factory serial number has been removed, defaced or replaced in any way.  Recently DENON Electronics has become aware of numerous instances in which such serial number tampering has occurred.  Unauthorized dealers/on-line E-tailers and/or their suppliers frequently alter the serial numbers in an effort to prevent manufacturers from tracing the supplier source.  DENON Electronics sell products through authorized retail and on-line channels to insure that consumers obtain quality pre-sale and after-sale support and service.  PROTECT YOUR WARRANTY.   Buy from an authorized DENON Electronics dealer/E-tailer.

They're really sticklers on this. I had a component switching problem with a first generation 3803 bought from a non-authorized dealer. They refused to upgrade it for free, as others were having done.

gparris, can be pre-ordered at Amazon for $260 shipped. Best price I found, ordered one 2 weeks ago. Still no idea as to when it'll ship. For the price, features and reviews, thought it was worth the wait.

Dave
I kinda thought that might happen ...

gparris

Yes, with Denon and many other manufacturers out there, the need to buy from a reputable dealer is necessary.
Crutchfield is a good source for A/V products from my experience and it is a Denon-authorized dealer, but in my experience, not a discounter by any means.
Warranty work can happen anytime, though I am surprised you had an issue with Denon. My old SONY receivers have not given me a gram of problems, including the stereo set I bought in 1987. I have just purchased a Denon 3803 and want to upgrade to the 3805 and wonder if I will have problems with this brand and how Crutchfield will honor the warranty issue.

In the meantime, let me know how you like the DVD-910 when you finally get it...I think you will surprised at the picture clarity due to the Faroudja processing. Amazon in my experience can be as slow as syrup with shipping and delivery, so I try to avoid it,  but thank you for the information.

Just thought I would check out the link and the company and here is what I found.

Prices and availability of products are subject to change prior to shipment. Should this occur we will notify you by e-mail or phone and give you the option to accept the changes or cancel your order.

We are not authorized dealers for the products we carry, we are brokers connecting buyers and sellers together.

Open box specials - are deeply discounted because they are demo units, returns, DOA (Dead On Arrival) units, open box with physical damages and/or imperfections, missing parts (ie: remotes, manuals, batteries, cables etc...). All open box are SOLD AS IS.

Return Policy

Each manufacturer warranty varies, in terms of length and coverage. All manufacturers warranty should cover repair or replacement of defective parts, subject to the conditions set forth in said warranty.

Returns are subject to a minimum 15% restocking fee, depending on the condition of goods and packaging material. Billed orders are subject to a 3% cancellation fee.

Sounds awfully scary company to deal with to me!!!!!

Sounds like any other place that sells electronics. There are a few stores that arent 'authorized dealers' and sell certain items.

The thing that scared me the most in the posting was that they are not authorized resellers. I would think you may have no warranty.

Also all their other rules seemed a little fishy to me. Minimum re-stocking fee of 15%. If that is the minimum, they could charge 100% if they wanted.

Their open box policy seems terrible. Open box could mean almost any piece of junk that may or many not work could be sold. That is hardly the open box policy of reputable retailers.

I know your not buying open box, but people like that would scare me to do business with.

Don't take offence; we are just looking out for a fellow poster. We may have been around the block a few more times and have some wisdom to offer.

Good luck and I hope all goes well for you. I have just been involved with shady resellers before and they will lie and cheat and steal your money. Their website and comments did not instill confidence that they are very reputable.

It was these two postings that makes me think you many not have a valid warranty

Posting from seller:

Posting from Denon:
