Thanks for joining the forum.

Looks like you have what I had with DTV and TWC.

How are you switching between the DTV HD box and TWC HD box?

It seems as  though competition is getting us more HD channels, but not from the same service provider and that's a shame.
Right now, TWC does not have ESPN HD and DTV and Dish are offering the same limited HD selection from last year even though they could offer more like Voom does, IMO.

Well, the year is still young and you have all the HD channels you can get right now outside of Voom...congradulations!

Sorry I have not replyed to my own post, vaction. Thanks for all the input, very helpful. I knew that a TW/ DTV question would be spilting and it seems so. Would like to address Gparris. Crs people are people. However ,the system at TW, I said can't get it right is because. In MY experance and my freinds and family and at the water cooler TW screws up the billing alot, long hold times, will say they will get back to and often forgets to call. In my opinon constant rate hikes. Plus is they are always increasing services. As for training all the time adding new people, please, making mine and the experance of others a good one is there/ your job. And I to have worked in the CS feild as well as the IT feild, and yes some people are real A@@@, can't be helped and will complain even if you give them everything they ask for. But good or bad  people ,there job is to make it work. In some respects TW is like the GOV, too large to do a good job, too many costomers to help them all and keep that cost down since they have to be paid also, all of these things I do understand as well as the web site problems was upset cause I have RR cause it's the best and I get a lot of mailers on ther TV service the one time I was considering it, could not get any answers. Thanks again sorry if I hit a nerve.

Sorry for the rant, On one hand most people here have HD tv's, HD receivers , good speakers some ant's blah blah. Now on the issue of TW and DTV equipment costs are always brought up as a issue, don't get that ,it's a hobby and a expense one at that. And I know nobody want's to spend more then they have to, but. Dish does require a second dish. DTV does not. DTV does not have are area locals in HD, but does have some national HD locals hopefully this too will change soon. I live in Milwaukee and I get All HD locals by way of ant , for those who don't live so close I can see a problem but that to can be fixed with the right equipment . Thanks to Starving who sold me his old Sony HD200, my HD stuff is great. Have a great day!

TWC is much more $$ than DTV.  Also I'm not sure how the boxes are with TWC?  I had TWC for a day last year and switched due to the analog channels 1-100.  I also had to change inputs to watch anything in HD.  This may have changed?  I know the analog channels have not though.  Remember analog is sound and picture on these channels.  This makes a big difference!!!  As far as your locals go.  I live north of Milwaukee and I have DTV with OTA locals and I get all the channels at 80 - 100% with a set-top antenna in my home.  With all of the hot specials DTV has I think anyone would want to go with a sat system.  Not just because of the savings but EVERYTHING is digital. And no, I don't work for DTV or any other company selling these services.

Just thought I would share my thoughts.

This did change.

Good to know they changed the box so you don't need to switch inputs.  Now all they need to do is make it all digital and they will have a nice service!!!

Can someone tell me which TWC package TNT HD falls under?

I am currently a D* suscriber.  I am also worried that I won't get FOX OTA by Packer season.  Maybe I'll have to put my name in for TWC's HDDVR.

Actually a recap of TWC HD channels (and the package they fall under) would be great?  ;)  Anyone??

Thanks,

Dan

This is how I understand it after finding what I felt was a understanding CSR at TWC:
To get 504-531 you need basic, really basic, cable plus an HD box rental, average cost of $20 depending on your area.

To get channel 33 (analogue TNT) you need to subscribe to the standard package, average cost around $40 which includes channels 2-99 (about 70 total which includes you local The Weather Channel 64-you get Milwaukee readings directly, nice feature)...
Then you will get TWC HD channel 533 at no extra charge.

To get Discovery HD Theatre, $41.75 plus tax/franchise fees...not much more (Channel 541).
Question 1: Since you get a digitally-delivered Channel 6 FOX and TNT on Directv, (it has GOT to be better than analogue TWC on Directv), why not wait for the following:
Directv will add more HD channels soon like TNT-HD in July once the SD locals are up and running in June...I would suppose.
Question 2: FOX HD (not Fox Sports Net HD) but the 6-1 channel is coming to Directv like CBS is OR their transmitter is going to get better, soon for OTA, so why don't you wait rather than giving TWC anymore money...unless you desire an HD DVR from TWC for locals and TNT-HD...it will definitely be more than $14.90 a month ($7.95 for box and $6.95 DVR service without a DigiPic subscription) with the $20 adder for the standard, not basic TWC package?

Just trying to be helpful here....

Just as a note...there is stuff going on in Washington DC with the Hill Denizon's picking up on Cable/Sat packages and pondering forcing them to offer "Ala Carte" programming.......could be nice but in the end could be costly.

It would be great to have more of an "A La Carte" pricing than is offered to get what YOU want to watch, but difficult, I guess.
You just don't know what else will come with the pricing...maybe a fee just for doing that very thing.

I just thought that what with the $20 more for standard cable than just basic cable channels, plus box, plus DVR fee, plus franchise fee, plus tax: ouch! :o
Just for getting TNT-HD when you have Directv, already.

That is almost double what you are paying for to get that one  channel and the HD DVR to record, what, 5 local HD and 1 national HD...and I not counting the  7th one for what little TWC gets in 531 for the so-called Fox Sports Net HD...it is almost never on...so double the bill for 6 HD channels and some analogue that you get better on Directv that are digitally-delivered unlike  cable.

I would wait a few weeks. Keep Directv. Wait to see what Mr. Murdoch has in mind for HD extras...I think the wait will include TNT HD and much more than that.

Save the $20 a month for the standard package of analogue and put it towards the HD DVR for the local HDs on TWC if that is why you have TWC to begin with.

OR  as the way to save up or make payments on the HD Tivo when these become more available.;)

Again, just somethings to think about.

while a la carte will never take off in the mass market and will financially be ridiculously expensive, it will at least be an alternative for those who want it. So if you really want to pay $6/month for ESPN Discovery, you can.

Personally I would just pay the $14 more and get another 40 or so channels, but that's just me...

StarvingForHDTV

I would like to see a la carte pricing.  I would definitely buy some HD channels from a provider.

It is better when it's not raining, which seems to be all the time lately.  I'm getting really frustrated with all the outages during NBA playoffs.  One of the downsides of sat i guess.

The D* FOX HD feed will be coming from New York or something.  Probably won't carry the Packer games.

I haven't pony'd up for the $12/month for D* HD channels yet, just not enough content to justify.

Thanks for the update.

Dan.

to side with gparris here (weird, I know), I too would recommend waiting for D*... Fox 6 will be moved sooner than you realize and TNT-HD right now is definitely nothing special. You won't get an HD DVR with DirecTV for anything less than $1000, BUT, if you did decide to go that route (aka can afford it) by default it will record 10 more hours of HD than TWC's likely will and it can be upgraded to 63 total HD hours for under $150 more.

Not turning this into a TWCW vs. DirecTV debate, but in your specific case I would suggest considering saying with DirecTV...
