Wonder if it will be fixed in time for the Oscars. This is not good.

It seems to get worse over time.  It's almost as though every time they switch from a national feed to a local feed, the popping gets more frequent.  I'm surprised they haven't solved this problem yet.  None of the other stations are experiencing it.  It can't be too good for their reputation.  Maybe if they get the DD 5.1 capability, that equipment will fix the sound problem.  We can only hope.

The Oscars are on ABC, not CBS. So far 512 on TWC looks and sounds OK.

I shoulda known that... WHEW! 58's still popping... byt ABC's PQ and sound are absolutely outstanding!  :)

Dear CBS-HDTV Viewers:

We have been working on the audio popping issues for sometime now and hopefully we have it solved.  New receivers and new software have been implemented today to hopefully correct the problems that we have been experiencing.

Additionally, some of you who view our DTV signal over-the-air will see additional channels lighting up as we prepare for the 2004 NCAA Basketball Tournament and our multicasts of all the games.

Thanks for Watching

WOW...6 of those bad boys showed up on my receiver. Are you really gonna show 6 simultaneous games ?

Matt;

What you should be noticing, is that while we have channel mapping identifying 6 sub-channels, you should notice that the names of the sub-channels added were NCAA 2, 3, & 4.  We have to keep the placeholders or sub-channel maps up allowing us to switch back and forth during non-multicasting periods.  Thus, the maps will be as follows:

1.1 CBS HDTV  (no HDTV games during the early rounds)
1.2 WMLW (remains)
1.3 NCAA 1 (WYTU will be coming off the multicast)
1.4 NCAA 2 (new)
1.5 NCAA 3 (new)
1.6 NCAA 4 (new)

The bandwidth allocated for channel 1-1 will be reallocated to the SD channels.

Hope that answers your questions.

Why? I sure hope "early rounds" doesn't mean what it did last year in everything but the final four. If the games are available in HD please show them instead. Certainly there is no need to duplicate the analog on CBS 58.

I surely hope it's not my system, but for about the last week or so PBS HD has had alot of audio drops and pixalization.  I'm pretty sure it's not me because whenever it happens I pay close attention to the MPTV HD logo in the bottom corner of the screen that our local adds, and that stays steady and clear.  I  have also brought up the diognostics screen of my WINTV-HD software and it shows a high S/N ratio and reports no errors.  Usaualy when I am getting a marginal signal it will shown errors.  I'm thinking they are having problems with the feed they are getting.  Outdoor Wisconsin is always steady and clear.  Has any else noticed this?  As far as CBS HD is concerned, it would sure be nice if 58 would allow more band width for their HD programming.  Theirs is the only channel I receive in HD that skips frames.  Even on those rare ocassions when reception  is low on one of the stations and I get a little pixalizing, they never skip frames with jerky picture motion.

All kinds of audio drop outs and complete snow tonight during CSI: Miami... mostly on transitions to/from commercials.

I couldn't agree more with Joseph on this matter.  If CBS is broadcasting the game in HD, it should be broadcast locally.  Otherwise, what is the point of CBS broadcasting in HD at all during such games?  Why would the national network devote resources to an HD telecast, only to have it pre-empted by the local affiliate?

I couldn't get more than about 4-5 consecutive seconds of watchable video during the whole primetime lineup tonight (7-9pm).  I switched over to the analog channel, and things were fine.  I have TWC and the SA HD box (sorry, it's late and I don't remember the model...is the 3100HD?).  I'm curious if this was a TWC thing or all of CBS58's viewing audience.  I've never had any of the HD channels function this bad, so I'm assuming it had something to do with changes made today (based on Jim's posts).

I'm on TWC and had a lot of popping during CSI as well. The picture switched in and out of SD and HD once, but other than that it was OK the whole show.

The same thing was happening to me through TWC.  I just switched to OTA though.

Still popping like mad during commercials.
