I have an appointment sometime between noon and 4 p.m this afternoon (love that) to have TWC installed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should watch tonight? I'm getting all available HD channels except Showtime HD.

Actually, TWC's inability to schedule a specific time for the install allows me to take a half day at work. When I talked to the CSR at TWC, and I told her I'd have to take time off from work, she sounded apolegetic, as if it was a bad thing. Hopefully, I'm not just sitting around on my hands all day waiting, though. I want HDTV now!

Congratulations mr yeti!  So up to now were you mr not yeti?(sorry)  Here are my suggestions,

Shrek is on HBO from 12:30 to 2:00 so if the cable guy gets there "early" you can turn this on, a great way to start with HDTV.

If he gets there after 2:00 you might catch some of Vertical Limit that starts at 2:15 on HBO.

My personal favorite is Sopranos which is on at 8:00.  Always good to see in HD.

On network TV you have Ed, Law & Order, My Wife and Kids, and George Lopez.  Nothing that I currently watch but with Sopranos at 8:00 you can have a full primetime of HD and on the first night of HD you won't be paying much attention to the storyline anyway.

Oh, and don't forget to check out Jay Leno at 10:35.  If you don't like him you can just mute it and watch the pretty picture.  I show his guests tonight as Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne and Mekhi Phifer(?) from ER.

Good viewing!

I'll probably avoid holding my breath waiting for the cable installer to get there by 12:30. Is "Curb Your Enthusiasm" in HD on HBO? I'm really looking forward to this show, regardless of whether or not it's HD.

I absolutely despise Jay Leno, and Ozzy Osbourne is ugly, even with a beautiful picture. Polishing a turd, so to speak, not to make any judgements about him as a person, but I'm not sure I want to look at him. I'll check it out, but I'll probably wait for a mega-babe to appear on his show before I watch it. I've heard wonderful things about the picture quality for Leno, though he should probably spend some money on writing jokes, as well.

Check out the HDTV loop on PBS-HD.  I believe it runs all day and has an excellent picture quality.

What is it with Leno?  I don't get it!  I find him on the whole totally unfunny, and lacking in any wit.

Perhaps it is my British sense of homour??

Anyway we're not allowed to character assassinate people here     so I'd better stop before I get into trouble.

Not everything of PBS digital (710) is in HDTV.  Some are also in SD widescreen, such as "Secrets of the Dead - Titantic's Ghosts" which is on at 7 and 10pm tonight.  Though not HD, you may be surprised at how good SD can look.

Though I must say I have not seen this program so it may look crummy, but the SD Widescreen of Frontier House (repeated on Saturday at 9pm looked marvelous).

Sorry if I crossed any lines with my statements about Leno. I'll refrain from any such comments in the future.

I have a feeling I'll be accomplishing very little around the house tonight, and for that matter, the next couple of weeks.

As for the English sense of humour, I don't know if it's so much nationality as personal preference. My sense of humour is very dry, yet I am not from England. Anyway, I find that Leno's "comedy" is decidedly miles away from being dry. Is this wet humor?

Well, that's enough of straying from the topic at hand. Thanks for the tips, gents. I can't wait for HD!

I must have a British sense of humor too.

I find myself watching PBS-HD quite a bit... shows I wouldn't normally watch.  Their picture is the best, in my opinion.

Too bad CBS is still "negotiating" with TWC, I really wanted to check out that Victoria Secret special... strictly out of technological curiousity, of course.

Actually, when TWC installed my HD box, the tech programmed it to give me all of the movie channels for free for a few days to "try it out"... so, you may wind up with Showtime too.

Actually you may get Showtime.

I do not subscribe to showtime, but I do get it at the moment, after I swapped my box on Saturday.

This has happened before and eventually it disappeared after a few days.  I'll expect my current "free" showtime to go kaput in the next day or so, but you may be surprised.

Nope, Curb is not HD...  and IMHO a waste of even normal bandwidth.

It's an unusual show, but if you give it time, it grows on you. I hated it before this season, but a couple of the episodes this season were really funny. But Mike is right... it's not in HD. Moot point anyway now, this episode is the season finale. In its time slot this Sunday night is Harry Potter.

BTW... I DO agree with everyone else on the unfunniness of Leno. I'll tune in to marvel at teh PQ, but then I'll switch back to Letterman in upconverted SD...

I finally figured out why I didn't think Leno isn't funny.  The humor is usually at someone else's expense.  Watch him thinking about that and I think you will begin to agree.

Too bad indeed that CBS58 is still "negotiating with TWC. Not CBS,the network, just the affiliate. The same lame way they "negotiated" with DIRECTV when the sat locals became available awhile ago. I got only 3 locals for a long while until CBS58 got its act together...figure another 6 months or so until TWC has Channel 58's digital station on if the station's behavior  repeats itself. Too bad-because CBS, the network, has the most HD of the major broadcast networks.

I tried watching it on 10.1 OTA.  It didn't come up as a true widescreen image for me.  Is 710 a national feed of PBS on Time Warner?  I actually watched Frontier House recently and had the same problem.  Maybe our local PBS is having a Faux-6-"DT" like problem on their end with the standard definition widescreen material.

Channel 10 doesn't always transmit HD, most of the time they are running multicasting..
10-1 3 hour delay channel 10, 10-2 3 hour delay of channel 36, 10-3 and 10-4 are PBS Kids and PBSYOU...10-5 is weather and music....Tracks Ahead and some other things are HD...check http://www.mptv.org  and look at the Digital listings.

The TW PBS HD feed is actually WPT which is currently on WHA-DT (madison).  This will become WMVT (which TW lists it as) on the air in Milwaukee in the Spring of 2003.

The way to get listings is to check  http://www.wpt.org/digitaltv/index.cfm?content=dtv_schedule

This is our only advantage to having TW over you OTA boys
