Is there any word as to when HDNET is going to show up on our local TWC? I haven't seen anything about this yet.

I just got off the phone with a CSR and asked when HDNET and HDNET Movies were available.:)

The information given was if you already subscribe to the HD package to get the IN HD 1 & 2 channels, you will automatically get HDNET and HDNET movies at no additional charge or having to call it in to get it added.
The response was: "I thought it was coming out on the 29th?"
That is all I got...like it was a mistake to tell me early.
This I will interpret to be JANUARY 29th, a Thursday.
All TWC channel additions are done on weekdays so this seems accurate.
IF it were February 29th-that is a Sunday and doesn't work.:D

I miss HDNET  from having Directv last year(never got HDNET movies in time)...can hardly wait!
It will be like getting 3 of the 4 the HD offerings of that Directv has at less than 2/3  the price, plus the INHD 1 & 2  channels !

I hope the CSR was right!!!

Mhz40: Anything to add/say?

I don't know of any specific launch date, so the CSR is most likely wrong about that specific date...  however I belive his/her packaging info is most likely correct.  The end of January is... ahh... not out of the rhelm of possibility.

Thank you for the info, Mhz40!;)

Take the HD package with HDNET/HDNET Movies, INHD 1 & 2,     All (available) HD locals, Fox Sports Net HD and the HBO-HD & Showtime-HD and then:

Wrap it all up with the upcoming 8000HD PVR!

Then you'll have"HD Heaven" from TWC!:)

With, of course, no equipment to buy - just  the service , if you plan on PVR-ing your HD selections.)

Now, all I could ask for is if DirecTV and DISH come out with Cinemax HD, TMC HD, Starz!HD or Bravo-HD channels, maybe TWC could throw a couple of them in! (please?)

Anyway, thanks!:)

An excerpt from a response to an e-mail I sent to the CEO at Dishnetwork regarding future HD programming last month:

"We are in negotiations with many HD channels including Starz and Bravo and other HD channels in an effort to provide these to our customers.  We are hopeful that several additional HD channels will be launched in the first few months of 2004 and are also working on technology that will allow us to launch even more HD."

Note that this same response was received by quite a few E* customers. Probably canned, but it does give some hope.

I kinda thought that might happen ...

I do hope HDNet is more exciting than Fox Sports HD - which, IMHO is utterly useless - there's nothing on!

We'll see what comes first, 8000HD to TWC-Milwaukee or HD DirecTivo which I just posted about in the recording section....

For my money, being able to record all TWC channels except for inHD, along with ESPN and HDNet+Movies, not to mention all local channels (looking directly at 18 18 which hopefully looks to be going HD soon), all wrapped within the wonderful Tivo interface... mmmmm....

did I mention I have money just waiting to pay for a 250GB drive to take my recording capacity up to 60 hours of HD material?

The Law

Why would you not be able to record inHD but you can record all the other channels.  Is TWC blocking this from being recorded?

gparris

Enjoy your HD-Tivo because it does have a nice interface and programming tool...like favourites.:)

But remember, at a THOUSAND dollars asking price, not including the sales tax and possibly, the warranty adders, you will get ahead of the TWC monthly fees in about 2014...or so.
:(  Assuming no better technology or DVR box comes along before then, you will be even...but I doubt it.

HD PVR , like the SD system used currently, intergrates picture-in-picture, zoom modes and the ability to watch one recording while recording 2 more simultaneously.
Even if you're not a TV freak, you have control to watch what you want and when...on your terms. ;)

Good luck in acquiring whatever system for HD record/playback, IMO the TWC HD DVR is best choice, at least until prices drop.

It is about time for HD recording for the average consumer!

Quotedid I mention I have money just waiting to pay for a 250GB drive to take my recording capacity up to 60 hours of HD material?

Where are these numbers from? I get approx 8GB per hour with HiPix and MyHD for uncompressed HD.

borghe

8GB per hour times 2x250GB drives.. the drive that comes in the unit and another drive just waiting to go into it.

You really think it's going to be $1K for the  HDTivo when you can get just a Tivo box for $100 or less now? You can also get a HD box from Directv right now for $99 installed.

gparris

Ok, So maybe not until 2014!

But even by 2009, a purchase at $500 for the HD Tivo (next year's reduction) and before 2009 even occurs, a half-terabyte HDD with active firewire and (God knows what else is available in 2009) in rental from TWC-and you STILL don't have to buy anything sounds great,  IMO.
But if you did, afterall, buy a HD-TIVO when it came out a year later after introducton, say,at half price and are still stuck with it thee to five years later, trying to upgrade it, it seems a little pricey.:D  I exchanged a SA3100HD for a Pioneer 3510HD and had out-of-pocket expenses other than my $7.95/month...an upgrade I did not have to buy.

But anyway, hopefully, before this thread gets expired (or TWC launches HDNET/HDNET movies) we will have more HD on TWC (the thread ) and equipment, soon,  to record HDTV for time-shifting without a lot of connecting, just plug and play, Tivo or not Tivo.;)

I'm chomping at the bit (or is it champing...I never know) for the HD DVR from TWC.  I don't want the dual boxes for now, so I patiently wait.  Since I don't have the cash and have had very much success with TWC customer care, I'm opting for the DVR box as opposed to buying my own gear.

I do have a question, though.  If you have a recorded an item, you'd like to keep on there, but will need to upgrade (for whatever reason - newer features, troubleshooting, etc) ,can the recorded item be transferred to the new box?

gparris

Transferring HD content from the PVR to another PVR requires firewire enabling, something TWC must get software for...and probably DTV's Tivo...Hollywood has a hand in it somewhere right now.:(   If you could at least firewire it to a HD VCR, once the firewire port is enabled (with the software upgrade), it should work.
For me, I just have 2 DVRs, one for each HDTV and I "mirror" the recordings in case I want to watch them in another room or in case of HDD failure. Once the programme is watched, I erase it on both....firewire archiving will be nice once enabled...hopefully soon.;)  Maybe this answers your question.
