Is it my setup or is there a major problem with the sound?

The center channel seems to be missing...

Yep it was screwed up, I reset my Sony 5.1 decoder to automatic format and all of a sudden it worked....I don't know if I fixed it here or they fixed it there.

Plus I was going to record it but I wanted to use TitanTV to automatically schedule it but they don't list 12 (34-1) yet, but they do list 6-1 and I can't receive it well and besides the programming there isn't really HD>

Even the PQ of the commercials is pretty good... although when it swtcthes from the film's orignal 5.1 Digital to wimpy mono on the commercials, it really makes the ads seem cheesy...

Heard the audio problem too.  It was on WLS in Chicago as well.  But all is well again and the video is, as previously reported, pretty amazing.  This is what it is all about.

Wow!

1)No butchered Aspect Ratio Zooming.

2)No annoying 12 bug in the middle of the screen.

Please don't change a thing. (or shut it down at 7:59:59.   )

Joke's on Me.

Alias is finally on in HD and...

they pull a last second programming change and show a repeat of the season 2 premiere. Pretty odd considering the episode was out this morning in VCD on usenet and the World Series has had bad ratings throughout. Must be that Disney influence. I watched the Sopranos instead again and recorded Alias.

I guess that leaves me just 3 short of having the complete season 2 in HD.

Glad the rest of you can now enjoy what we westsiders have had all along on WKOW DT. ABC really does a nice job with HD and the upconverts are very good. Looking forward to the Superbowl now.

Did you see the HDTV commercial on the analog channel 12. They show a tv expanding and exploding aka the Hulk with the accompanying voice over...Milwaukee's only full time, full power HDTV station. Maybe a little competition will light a fire under 6, push WTMJ to full time and even get 58 to jack up the power.

I tuned in to A Bug's Life shortly after 7:30 PM  The audio was great, just like DVD.  They used all 5.1 channels perfectly.  I thought the picture quality was fantastic as well.  I was surprised to see the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen though.

Anyway ABC-DT is now my new favorite network.  Due to their nice picture quality and superior sound quality.

I switched to CBS-DT's Sunday Night Movie or whatever it is shortly after A Bug's Life.  It had the built in side bars and stereo digital audio.  Not quite as impressive as ABC-DT.  I didn't spend more than a minute or so there before going back to ABC-DT

The black bars on the top and bottom were there because they transmitted the program in the original aspect ratio that it was produced in for the theater.  A lot of wide-screen dvd's are distributed that way.

Black bars on top and bottom mean that the film was orignally produced in a wider format than 16:9.  The network can choose to show it in that ration and put in the bars, or they can crop the film to 16:9 and do what critics call pan and scan. Film purists hate pan and scan. HBO almost does it to almost all their movies, and you should hear the folks at AVS forums howl in disapproval.

Whatever CBS had on for their Sunday night movie must not have been in HD.

We'll have to see if there will be a time this week that we can scan between true HD on 4, 10, 12, 58, HBO, Showtime, HDNet and compare picture quality.

It just surprised me because I own Monster's Inc. on DVD and that has the 16:9 anamorphic ratio (no black bars).  I checked on the web and the DVD for A Bug's Life is 2.35:1 so of course it would be proper to send the signal that way, in my opinion.

I'm not knocking the black bars at all.  They didn't bother me in the least bit.  I completely enjoyed the experience.  I was just surprised that a movie like that was shot in that aspect ratio.

P.S.  I did catch WISN's commercial for their first full time Milwaukee DTV station.  I hope they play it often on the analog channel 12.  That could help build curiosity in the analog viewing audience.  The more people that switch to DTV the better, of course.
