I just picked up a Samsung SIR-T151 HDTV tuner.  My last box did not display program guide information sent by local broadcasters with their signal.

I was pleased to find out that 10-1, 10-2, etc.  is sending out the electronic program guide information.  4-1 is as well.

I am a little disappointed that 1-1, 6-1, 12-1, 18-1, 24-1, 36-1, and 55-1 choose not to send out the program guide information with their signal.

Any idea why some stations send it, and others do not?

Thanks in advance,

Starving

While part of the PSIP protocol is program guide information it is not required to have it to make DTV work.  It takes an extra generator to create the data and input it into the data stream.  In addition there is probably a lot of work on the stations part to keep the information up to date with weekly updates and the such.  Therefore they probably feel that for the minor amount of viewers that have the access to it that it isn't worth the expense at this time.

On another note if you have directv all this information does come down the pipe from them and shows up on your channel listing.  I love the way it works on my Sony....
For example
ML58 (58 Milwaukee) 9PM Judging Amy
58 (58 OTA)                9PM Judging Amy
58.1                            9pm Judging AMY HD

Someday all the stations will do it over the air...but for now that's what we have.  BTW since going with digital we don't even keep a TV guide around..don't need it.

Well, if 18-1 and 24-1 don't do HDTV, certainly why would you expect them to send out a program guide?  Its too much for Sinclair.  That will change only if Sinclair would be so kind as go out of business and sell their stations to people who know how to operate a TV station.
