We now the a Toshiba 30" HD ready TV -
We live in the Town of Genesee (rural Waukesha County)
We have an antenna on the roof for local reception and a satellite dish (Direct TV)
we are wondering if one of you can tell us what we need to go HD - we are getting different answers depending on who we talk to  - we have talked to Direct TV - Flanners - and a manager at American -
We would like to continue to use our antenna rather than pay
Direct TV for the privilege of watching local stations.
Hope this is the right forum to ask this question
and thanks much!!

You need the dual OTA/Directv receiver plus you have to replace your dish with the new oval one with 3lnb's.  I have the Sony SAT200HD but their are plenty of others out their...like the Samsung and the rest.  When I upgraded I just ran another coax and kept the old Directv box going and wired it to the bedroom so we'd have Directv in there.  From there I have a 2.4gig wireless transmitter sending the signal from the old box to all the other tv's in the house....got a 2.4 receiver for each of them...kitchen, garage, workout room and hot-tub.

Enjoy....I think that any HD box for directv has a the OTA receiver in it.  Although if you like to record things you might consider going slow as there will be a couple models after the 1st of the year with HD recorders built in.  At that time I'll probably put my Sony SAT200HD up for sale and get one with a recorder.

Jeff,

I'm not that far from you (Stoney Hills Estates - off Jarmon & Hwy. DT). Our antenna is in the attic, and we get OTA signals just fine, with the exceptions of channel 4, 18 & 24. However, (and we also have the Sony HD DirecTV box), ALL digital signals come in great. We can even pick up Chicago stations if the weather's clear.

In short, you should have no problems getting great HD signals and if you already have the oval dish with 2 lnb's. Check with DirecTV and see if they're still sending out the third lnb for free like they were this summer when I got mine. Installation is very easy (well, at least it was when the weather was warmer!).
